No more free drinks at All Star Sports Resort

I was one of those people that were told the mug would be good forever. I have been coming to Disney for 20 years. We vacation at WDW twice a year. Am I supposed to buy two new mugs a year? That is totally ridiculous. We are not DVC members or super duper premium passholders. I don't understand why the refillable mug is such a hot topic. How much time do you really spend at your resort anyway? We are there when the parks drop the rope and get back to the hotel late. I'm lucky if I fill up once a day with the mug. Disney constantly raises their ticket, hotel, food and merchandise prices. So what if people reuse their mugs from year to year. I laugh to myself when people use the word fraud or stealing. Get a life people. I could go anywhere for my vacation, but I chose to spend it either at Disneyland or WDW. It's about Disney gives me something back.
The legend of the lifetime refillable mug is one of the great WDW mysteries. It has been discussed on every single Disney forum hundreds of times and through all of those discussions not one shred of evidence has ever been shown that a lifetime mug was ever official Disney policy aside from anecdotes. I have no doubt that you were told that it was a lifetime mug but if it was never officially on the books as a lifetime mug Disney is not going to honor it.

It was of an old Dixie Landings sign - I'd say from around 97-98 - and I believe I still have some of the mugs that were sold then. Maybe I should try bringing one on my next trip.

I thought I had saved the picture, but I can't find it at the moment.

Please post it if you can find it. I have been looking for some credible evidence of this for years and kept coming up empty.

The eternal mugs are joining the Rocket Rods on hiatus. After all, once a parade "glows away forever" it can't ever come back - especially when they sell the bulbs!!

Oh wait.... I guess Disney sometimes changes its mind, even on "promises" :)

wow.. Disney was losing.. 10 cents or less on a drink... oh wow.. maybe less then a nickle.. or three cents... on a cup that they charge $15 for.. or for the family of four who only use three of the cups at a time.. or use one cup ONE TIME..

again. YOU WANT TO TALK BEAN COUNTING..

this is the attitude that did in General Motors.. the LACK OF IMAGINATION.. and the lack of Customer service.. Charging for EVERY THING, instead of letting stuff slide.. getting that Last nickle..

who remembers Schiltz beer.. ? in 1969, this was the number one selling beer IN THE WORLD... and some bean counter decided to "save the company" some money, by cheaping the product..

now,, and I mean within the past 2-3 years, the Original forumula was found and now being reintroduced.. but there is next to no distributership.. try and find it..

this type of thing is the sure sign of the beginning of the end for the Disney company.. you can poo- poo it all you like.. but first its closing this or that, or Pleasure Island.. now the drinks and the Mono rail.. the pricing has changed away from Magic your way.. what's coming next? maybe closing one park per day..

this is not a good sign.. no matter if you think it was "stealing or not.".. trust me, its not..

So i wonder what that means for people who purchased their resort specific mugs back in the day when they were told that the mug would be good forever?

If I was told that back in the day (not saying if it really existed or not) and now I can't do that anymore, I would be a little upset...

the other thing I was thinking too is they don't pay for the syrup anyway...seems like a lot of time spent on chasing a minor problem when there are other things that need to be handled around the resort.

I work for the Coca-Cola Company. I assure you they pay for the syrup-one of our largest customers. The only syrup they don't pay for is the international drinks in Club Cool.

All of our other theme park/customers would scream and we have regulations to follow.

"Stealing" is a pretty easily definable word.

stealing-present participle of steal (Verb)
1. Take (another person's property) without permission or legal right and without intending to return it: "thieves stole her bicycle"; "she was found guilty of stealing from her employers";

Maybe it is the dictionaries that I am using but I have yet to see one where a particular dollar amount was required for the definition to apply.

Just this past June, I saw people using the mugs that you can now purchase for $5 with no refills from the parks that look just like the resort mugs (but purple lids and handle and a picture based on the park) and using them at the resort!! So now if this gets around, why would people buy mugs at the resort at $13 when you can get them for $5 at the park and refill them all you want at your resort? I see Disney's point that something needs to be done here!
I think people will catch on to using these new machines if their thirsty enough. There's always the free Florida water, right?

Kind of a stretch comparing the GM downfall to Disney wanting their guests to pay for their soda. It's a slippery slope, letting little things slide. Are you saying that turning the other way while guests steal soda should be company policy? Why not just give it away for free if you don't expect everyone to pay for it.

BTW I thought GM's failure was based on their inability to adapt to the consumer's need and their homoginizing of all their brands. Wait maybe you are onto something...

Disney homogenized everything almost 10 years ago now. I think we're rebounding from that somewhat.

From the pictures, I don't understand how it works. Is there a sensor in the mug and the dispenser? I wonder what happens if you change resorts halfway through your vacation.
Now for the passholder, or Florida resident, I wonder if they'll come up with something like an optional add-on, like $50 or something, gets you "free" drinks all year anywhere on property. They could even have a passholder mug that they change every year. I think I'm dreaming! They want me to buy a new mug everytime I go!

If they're using RFID technology, they'll be able to change the info on the chip in the mug to make is useable at the new resort. It's just like chipping a pet...if the dog is chipped and then is given to a new owner, then the new owner can have the information on the chip changed in order to reflect the dog's new home address.

I have not read back through the previous posts, but we just returned and during our stay, we heard from numerous CM's that mugs are going to be a part of all DDP plans in 2012, not just the quick service plan. That may be in preparation for rolling out the RFID stations in all locations.....

That is correct, the new dining plans all include mugs. Doesn't really have anything to do with RFID tags or not, though.
