No Monorails

I am hearing reports of a power outage on the Epcot beam which may have caused this to happen.
Fam and I went to Epcot this morning from Contemporary. When we got to Epcot the monorail stopped and we sat still for a few minutes and the pilot came on the intercom and said we were waiting for traffic to clear. We sat for about 5-10 minutes. He came on again and said we would be moving to the epcot station slowly so "we could make sure the monorail was in good condition" or something along those lines. We started inching towards the stations. He came on again and said normally the monorail goes at 20 mph but we were travelling at 3 mph to "make sure conditions were safe" or something like that. He also said normally the trip around epcot to the station would take 1 and a half minutes but it would take us about 5 minutes. Not sure if it was our train or the track but it took us 40 minutes to get to Epcot from Contemporary. I've seen monorails around Epcot today so it must have been our train
Edited to add: we did transfer at TTC, thats when the train started having issues

It sounds like he was going slower to make sure that the other trains had cleared, not that your monorail was having problems.

That's my take on those announcements.

Just as an FYI you can actually walk from GF to the TTC if the monorail is ever down again.

We run into monorail issues often (especially the resort line) so we don't rely on them much. Part of why I'm not a huge GF fan - you are stuck going to Polynesian first before going to MK and they are not accessible.

The ferry back from the TTC to Polynesian is a great option too if you are on the further end of the resort or even just wanting to get back without taking the smaller boats or monorail. That's our preferred method of transport to/from MK.
How do we walk to GF? The direct path does not cross the canal west of the MK.

That's what we thought was happening at first and then he said everyone needed to get off because that train wouldn't be running anymore. And then when we went through the security line one of the officers said that if you were planning on going to MK after Epcot the monorail would be down. But I've seen them going through epcot since then so I guess they're running again.

I was talking about walking from TTC to GF since that's what the poster I quoted was talking about. There is no path from MK to GF just like there is no path from Contemporary/BLT to TTC. You can walk from the TTC to Polynesian and on to GF though. Those 3 are interconnected.

I didn't realize this was and 'odd' occurrence. It's happened to us every year we've gone for the past 4 years. The only time I've ever seen and been able to ride a monorail at night was 3 years ago, and it was the only one running that night. This past February, none of them were running at closing time. So, nope, no surprise here. We only try to ride them during daylight hours ourselves.

The last 3 trips we took, all in August, the monorail was plagued with problems - It barely ran.
It needs a serious overhaul - or Diz is really getting cheap and cutting running hours, especially during peak times when they know it will be packed.
Really a shame - riding the monorail WAS a Disney tradition:(

I forgot to add that when we were going to MK, we met a man who had been on a monorail for 45 minutes at the station just a few days earlier with no air conditioning. The doors of the monorail did not open because they did not work, and when they finally did, he had to take the ferry anyway. He said that no one was apologetic. Additionally, our original plan was to take the "water taxi" to Grand Floridian, but the line for it was probably over an hour wait and we gave up.
Having dealt with the public all my adult life, let me be the first to tell you that you cannot believe anything anyone tells you about things like that. I had a guy tell me the other day that he waited for 40 minutes for a bus to come. I was there and the bus was there just 8 minutes before. Just a mere 32 minutes off in accuracy. In other words, with a few exceptions it is all human drama crap. And, of course, if your going to go for 40 minutes, you might as well add no air conditioning into the story. It conjures up more sympathy from the gullible public.

This isn't worthy of a new thread, so I figured I would mention this here being it was around the same time as last week. The monorails were running fine tonight but for those staying at any of the Disney Resorts other than those along the beam, had a roundabout way to go to get there. We had gone to the GF for a quick bite to eat and when we took the Resort Monorail to the TTC, they announced that anybody that needed to get to any of the Disney Resorts would have to take the monorail to the Contemporary, go to the first level, get the bus to Disney Springs, then switch over to their specific Resort bus there. We're thinking that this might have been due to needing more buses at HS since they were parking a lot of guest at EPCOT because the HS lot was to capacity. Who knows…we're just glad that we weren't staying at a Resort!
