No Extra Magic Hours Starting 1/1/16? Update: EMH to Continue

Could I stay off the resort and still be able to add on the e-ride nights? If so, this would be a win in my book. I'm in the camp where I enjoy most of my "disney" time during the EMH at night. Best time to go to the parks. This would allow me to stay off resort for much cheaper, and still be able to get the good "nights" at the parks.

Whoa.... its just a crazy idea and not an actual rumor. (Crap, did I just start a rumor?)

When E-Ride nights existed back in the 90s, you needed to be a resort guest. I think they still had the extra magic hour in the morning.

haha! Remember, I like rumors, even crazy far-fetched ones. I know you were just wondering about that possibility, and I was going a little further with it. I don't remember e-ride nights, but my first time staying on resort property was in 1995. I remember my friend and I stayed there and we were both 17 and had to get written parental permission to stay at a disney resort. I can't imagine we were morning people doing the early magic hour.

I am not a morning person on vacation either.

I'm personally tired of them changing things to make WDW more of a money grab. Yes, I know it's a business and the whole point of a business is to make a profit but it wasn't like they weren't before. I hate the new FP+ system and booking rides, hate having to make dining reservations 6 months out (not new), I'll hate if they take away EMHs. IMO it's not becoming any easier to plan a trip, it's actually more difficult and more of a headache now. For a while I was going every 6-10 months, now I haven't been since last February and I don't have a trip planned now, maybe for Xmas but we'll see. A big part of my absence is due to all of this "improving" they are doing. Maybe I'm in the minority here but it's getting less and less enjoyable.

Just had a particular nasty thought here....

.... thankfully I have nothing to back this idea up. However. What with Disney's current upcharging, upselling, make everything cost extra mentality, what if they're going to make a move to bring back something similar to E-Ride nights? From their POV, why give those hours away for free?

Just a crazy thought that has nothing to support it.
But is it really free? I mean for a lot of guests that's a big reason why they pay $449/night for a deluxe room they could get for $199/night down the street.

Since I generally don't stay on site, and when I do, I never use morning EMH and rarely use evening, I wouldn't be bothered. Indeed, I prefer the parks to give everybody the same opportunities to do things, so EMH never sat all that well with me. '

That said, I seriously doubt this is really happening, unless they have something else in the works to give to on-site guests.

It's certainly possible that it'll happen. But I would think even @ford91exploder could wait until it's actually known to choose his invectives.
I agree with you. There's no reason to be an alarmist over this--it's just something curious that aligns with other whispers we've received recently so it bears watching. To suggest, as some are, that we should turn a blind eye because Disney has such awful website folks that they chronically post schedules with errors A) points out how unacceptable their website management is and B) is a bit too quick of a knee jerk response. We'll know more in 2 weeks when official hours for January start appearing at disneyworld.com.

I also used to LOVE e-ticket night. But with the way disney has been charging, and able to get, outlandish prices for the things they do, I suspect e-ticket night would be in the range of $75-$100. After all, if a place to sit and watch fireworks and eat dessert for ONE HOUR costs over $50- what do you think they can get for the run of the park for 2 or 3 hours.
sadly, most nice extras at Disney are now out of my price range.

I am personally hoping for a few extra FP as the makeup for this. would actually work better for those of us with young kids- unless you consider, that would make the FP lines even longer.....just can't win here can you?

Meal Plan (the fact you don't have to pay for meals, not the quality per se) and Magic Kingdom traffic are enough for me to stay on property still...LOL

And when the Meal plan goes away (which it will)???? EMH is the ONLY reason we have ever stayed onsite. We will have no need to if they eliminate this.

Our next trip is booked for January 2016, and I have to say I am definitely not happy if we lose EMH. We always book our dinners around the park that has the evening EMH. After dinner we will always finish the night in the park that is open late. For our trip in January, MK closes at 8 pm for five of our nights. So if we booked a 6:00 pm dinner at one of the monorail resorts, our time in MK would be done once we leave the park for dinner. I think I would be more likely to just grab something quick in the parks, rather than lose the park time at a TS. Especially if we had to leave the park.
