No Extra Magic Hours Starting 1/1/16? Update: EMH to Continue

I find it interesting that DAK has 5 pm closing the first week, then 6 pm closing the next two weeks, then 7 pm closings the final weeks of the month. Could they be moving the hours later in preparation for RoL?

Nobody objected to the original posting of the rumor. Notice that it included a question mark. What we object to is the mischaracterization of that rumor as "fact" by subsequent posters. People take rumors and get all agitated about them and then whine and complain about how awful Disney is for doing a thing that they're not even doing.

This is beautiful CaptainAmerica.

It sums up my feelings perfectly about many of the chronic, myopic complainers that haunt this site.

I posted this in another thread- but I'm very interested in how this new schedule is going to affect crowds. It is very different than January's (or any months) prior to this.

Observations:
-MSEP is now nightly to try to disperse MK evening crowds more evenly- vs 4x/week like the previous months and Jan 2014.
-Hours are substantially more consistent between parks. MK doesn't stay open past 10pm- even with EMH past January 2. Last year- there were 3 11PMs 12 nights where they were open midnight or later.
Note: They sometimes add an hour here and there as we get closer- so I realize that is a possibility, but I'm talking about January 2015 vs 2016 preliminary calendars.

So the combination of now nightly 7pm MSEP and 7pm Fantasmic! with 9PM Illuminations should, in theory, disperse the crowds much more effectively in the evenings.

Just my interpretation- but I think that morning EMH are going to play a very big role in my touring strategy now- and I fully plan to take advantage of morning EMH at DAK/Epcot- whereas I would normally avoid EMH parks. But with the leveling of evening attractions, and the diminishing of EMH evening hours, I believe that is the best bet now.

It will truly be interesting to see how these minor, and not so minor changes will affect crowd dispersement throughout the crowd. There was definitely thought out and decided on for a specific purpose.
I have not read this thread cover to cover and am glad that TDO didn't can EMH but, why the change to do MESP every night in winter? The last time MSEP went every night during "off" season was the farewell period back in 2001 before Spectro came back. Any rumors starting that next Jan being MSEP's last Jan?
While it makes sense to make guests chose between F!/MSEP/Wishes, ROE is 1-2 Hours after the other shows. Anyone how many guests move to EPCOT after DHS and MK in Winter?

I'm thinking one the ways to move guests from MK besides the brand new ROL, is for DHS to return to Frozen fun right after New Years either every day or on weekends. We know Pyro is Popular at DHS. and the royal welcome only helps things.

Another thing I was wondering about is why doesn't DHS turn SWW into an event like Frozen Fun? Then it could go all week instead of just Fri-Sun

Remember when EPCOT did ROE twice during EMH Nights for a short time? Couldn't EPCOT add a ROE before Daylight Savings Time hits?

AK has always had some days that were 7pm. It used to irritate me to no end that the 7pm closing days always seemed to end right before we go in October and all we would see were 5pm closings.

I think that with RoL and the new Avatarland AK will start staying open later than 7pm. After all, in order to enjoy these things fully it will have to be dark right?

I agree, but I have never seen closing at DAK this late nightly in January. AVATAR is two years away and RoL apparently premieres March 2016. So I find the hours curious.

SWW is very labor intensive and generally well done. Frozen Fun is cheap and lazy. 15 days of good Star Wars > 365 days of bad Star Wars

Yes, especially during the summer where it doesn't get dark until around 9pm. Gonna be interesting to see DAK opened until 10pm, but I think it will happen.

And it went away due to guest complaints, not to save a buck, as there is no savings. It actually costs Disney more money to have it sent to the resort, as most resorts have to have a person on duty to go fetch the packages, where as before they were just given to bell services, who is there anyway. And why bring up something that hasn't happened in years anyway? If they had just stopped in the last few months, sure, bring it up, but it hasn't happened in about 10 years, so what's the big deal? Oh that's right, we have to complain about every single decision made by Disney, good or bad.

So, what exactly was the complaint? Who would not prefer to have a package delivered directly to them, as opposed to having to fetch it from the gift shop? Which is not a huge inconvenience, but still.

Frozen Fun is NOT Lazy! More power to Frozen since it brought nightly fireworks back to DHS!

And SWW doesn't have to be all year, couldn't DHS make Star Wars a Spring event. LIke Frozen Fun is a Summer event?

I prefer it the way it is, but I'd never complain about it either way. I just like having as few strangers in my hotel room as possible. Plus, almost all of the gift shops are right by the bus stops anyways.

The labor needed for Star Wars Weekends is significantly greater than that needed for Frozen Summer Fun. It's like comparing Apples to Oranges, however seemingly similar they are.

Back when I did DME, etc. - I used to insist on getting my own luggage. I wouldn't use their tags. We have no choice but to "trust" the TSA, but I sure as heck wasn't going to then trust that Disney would handle my bags properly, either and hope they showed up sometime later that day.

To be honest, it obviously definitely saves money (not having to have a CM running around to resort rooms) but I would also guess it was a liability thing as well. The more employees you have entering rooms when guests aren't there, the more chances for them to be exposed to accusations of missing items, etc.

As are the profits (significantly greater). I don't think folks who haven't done them (or not done the merchandise lines) really get what they are all about. They are massive merchandising events. Sure, they have some M&G's, a few stage presentations, etc. - but they make millions a day during SWW on merchandise that people stand in lines for hours on end to get.

Oh yea definitely...you truly have to experience SWW firsthand to grasp the multitude of the offerings and the demand for them.
