No Extra Magic Hours Starting 1/1/16? Update: EMH to Continue

I guess me and my family are just weirdos. :)

We are recurring guests, we choose to stay on property, and we would do so even if EMH went away. Quite honestly, we very rarely take advantage of EMH anyway. We are not early morning "rope drop" people, so we never do the morning EMH. Once in a great while we've been in a park late at night during EMH. But even that is rare as we have a bunch of little kids.

The reason we choose to stay on property is not because of any specific "perk" that is offered to us. It is because we like being in the "Disney bubble." I know many people here feel very differently, but if we loaded everyone into the car at the end of the day and drove to an off property hotel, it just wouldn't feel right.

We pay the extra price for the experience of being on site the entire stay. Not for EMH or any other specific perk.

(And, BTW, I cannot type or read "EMH" without thinking of the Emergency Medical Hologram from Star Trek: Voyager... :) )

Agree and your not weird as I feel the same! Lol. We bought DVC because me and my DH love being in the "bubble" and staying in nicer/larger accomadations that the Villas provide that we paid for cash many times before we decided DVC was right for us.
We did not stay on property just due to the "perks" or buy into DVC just for those "perks". We will gladly continue to be DVC members and stay onsite even if they take the EMH away. I will be dissapointed of course if they eventually ever take them away because we love using the night EMH because we are not early risers and go when the hours are not as long in the parks, BUT it will never get me to sell my DVC points and stay offsite. We love our Disney "bubble" and getting away from the real world while there. We also always drive our own car and don't use the busses so that was not a reason to stay onsite either. All for the bubble effect! :)

So I missed a big groups of pages. I looked at the original posters link and that calendar now has EMH hours on it. Was this all just a misunderstanding and they are not going away?

Yep not going away and just took longer for the schedule to come out as I figured would happen. Not saying they never will but not this coming year so far. :)

You are not weird. I'm heading down in December, and I didn't make my plans based on EMH. OK, well one night I did. The night DHS has EMH. I never planned on staying on property simply cause of EMH. I did, in the past however, decide the park based on EMH, and we'd go to that park that day. But if EMH went away, yea, I'd say more perks taken away from guests for the price you are paying... but I wouldn't miss them either.

My thoughts,

1. Big mistake to take away EMH, it is one way they can justify the higher rack rate.
2. People will still pay money to go no matter what.
3. We already pay for EMH.....in the cost of the hotel stay per night.
4. Do any of you people really believe they will increase hourso_O? Duh they are taking hours away:banghead:. Now heres your sign;).
5. The kill EMH we will stay of property at a way better place than what the value resorts on property offer.
6. We are capable of packing our own lunches, that will save money.
7. We have multitudes of options for breakfasts and dinners off property which.....wait for it.....saves money.

So yeah go ahead and kill EMH, we can take our extra money elsewhere while still going to Disney. Maybe even stay onsite at Universal.

HA! This made me laugh!!

Thing is, it is becoming apparent that the suits now consider WDW as invincible – completely unaffected by any outside influences or competition. They've weathered Potter and now they believe, that WDW doesn't need any incentives or new offerings to get people to stay on property.

EMH = Gone.
Free Dining = Gone (they still offer it, but you're paying for it in room upgrades now).

It's Disney's big problem now, isn't it? They are looking at the bottom line of every offering without taking into consideration any of the effects eliminating it will have on other parts of the business (partly because they mistakenly believe it won't matter. People will still come anyway) .

What they're failing to understand is losing EMH is just what informed people need to now look outside of Disney property for cheaper options. Seriously, besides a couple minute drive, what's the big incentive to stay on-property now when you can extend your trip for 2-3 days longer and do more things by staying at a cheaper resort off-property? Heck, if I stay at Uni, I get in early AND I get to go to the front of the line as well.

Was EMH really a big enough incentive to stay on property? Yes. I absolutely believe for many it was.

They are pushing people to where TWDco shouldn't want them to go: their vacations will soon be considered "Orlando vacations", not "Disney vacations." It's almost like they're holding their hands and leading them off property.
I wish they would do away with the free dining plan. Parents take their kids out of school during the slow times when this is offered. I admit that I got spoiled coming to Disney a few years after 9/11 and the economic downturn. It will be interesting to see what happens and what Disney tries to get away with.

Another down side to the free dining plan is for those of us on DVC (who can't get it), it makes it harder to get ADRs. Yea, it's during the slow time of the year, but a higher percentage of the visitors are eating at the TS restaurants..

SIAP, but Touringplans is now showing park hours for all of January and they've removed the "these are projections only" disclaimer. They seem to be reporting them as "official" and do included EMH.

I think that morning EMH are going to play a very big role in my touring strategy now- and I fully plan to take advantage of morning EMH at DAK/Epcot- whereas I would normally avoid EMH parks. But with the leveling of evening attractions, and the diminishing of EMH evening hours, I believe that is the best bet now.
But it's so eeeeearly. I'm all for rope drop but I don't think EMH will ever be an option for me unless it's MK morning and I'm staying on the loop. That said, I'm also interested in how the new structure will impact crowd levels, but for a different strategy.
