No Extra Magic Hours Starting 1/1/16? Update: EMH to Continue

You can and you really should because if you don't you won't be able to get any of the popular restaurants at normal times.

So, not so much a myth as a good tip.

Not 100% true (tho it IS a good idea to book as soon as you can). As a "Local" I never plan more than 2 weeks in advance for dining..and I have had little issue getting into anyplace at a decent time...you just need to be a little flexible (a 3 hour window is usually sufficient from my experience).

I absolutely love the information this place provides and for some great conversations from time to time , but its comments like this that just keep me away from the doom and gloom mentality around here sometimes (most of the time)
And yet some here would like to follow me around, ringing a bell and yelling "Shame!"

That's just not the case. I lived in Orlando for three years and I made same-day, next-day, and next-week reservations at the "popular reataurants" ALL the time. Even my last trip in April, I had no idea I was even going until two or three months out and I got a Friday dinner reservation at Be Our Guest.

No
yet comments that marginalize other people's concerns are acceptable to you and fill your tummy tum tum with rainbows and happiness!??? Man, pass that dutchy to the left hand side, brutha! I need me some of that!

Wow, this right here just sums up what I am talking. Do you think its possible that someone on this board is in the middle of the road? Not drinking the Kool Aid but also not pulling the trigger on every move Disney makes?

There is major push inside the company to remove more of the EMH benefit and replace it with the ability for resort guests to make additional FP+ reservations for each day of their vacation. I actually believe this would be a smart move. Also, in test surveys, staying open later for resort guests only always falls lower on the satisfaction meter than having additional fastpasses that can be planned anytime.
people would rather have 1 more fastpass during the day when it's busy then having an hour or two extra in the park only to resort guests?

i wonder how that's worded because i don't see how someone would want the 1 additional ride when you can get a lot done in that hour or two for just resort guests (unless those people leave before the hours kick in)

Removing EMH entirely has been the plan all along, and I posted about it here a long time ago... http://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/my-magic-details.867852/page-82#post-5699443

I looked at your post, and didn't see that this was the plan all along. Perhaps it has always been an alternative, but I don't see it as THE plan. Maybe I missed something.

EMH is more than just short lines for the rides. It's being in a less crowded park, feeling special, and justifying the extra bucks you paid for the convenience of being onsite. As I get older, I'm starting to like big crowds less and less. This apparently is not unusual. Many of the age 50+ men that I know are truly starting to avoid crowds, wanting quiet times in a man cave or woods instead. Short lines are nice, of course, but it's the atmosphere and relative quiet that brings me back for evening EMH's with each visit.

I would say that's more the exception than the norm when it comes to Be Our Guest. I can get most restaurants same week but Be Our Guest I have only gotten it when I logged in 180 days out so maybe you just happened to search when a cancelation freed up.

But overall I agree that the 180 day is not really needed at all and is vastly overstated by most.

Well, some people don't want to either get up early or stay late and would prefer to simply do more during the times they intent to be in the park (mid-day).

Anywho back to topic I am really glad for now they are staying because as not being an early riser me and DH love the evening EMH. Can walk up to almost any ride and love the feeling in the parks after dark without large crowds. :)

Nobody "pulled the tirgger". People we just (calmly) discussing the subject of EMH possibly being eliminated. The old "the sky isnt falling routine" was unwarranted. Who was panicking and acting as if it was? Who said they were cancelling a trip? Nobody. People were discussing POSSIBLE scenarios, thats all.

"Middle of the road" is just another way of saying "undecided". If your truly undecided then how could my doom and gloom mentality offend you any more than a pixie duster attitude? If my telling someone else that there as no need to cry "the sky isnt falling" offended you, then quite clearly you have made a decision how you feel about it. You just cant or wont admit it. Otherwise, spare me your middle of the road speech, how does it make any progress?

No it's not. In Magic Kingdom in the mornings, they wouldn't let us go anywhere else in the park during EMH, we were stuck at a rope outside of Adventureland.

Fantasyland and Tomorrowland are both open for EMH. In fact you could knock out all of the major attractions in those 2 lands before the park opens for everybody else which saves you TONS of frustration later in the day.
