No Extra Magic Hours Starting 1/1/16? Update: EMH to Continue

The point is, EMH has not been cancelled. And Disney has NEVER released park hours this far in advance and they've ALWAYS been subject to change. It isn't a new thing that you don't know January hours for a certainty as of the previous June.

This time. But your previous comments were why would anybody be concerned, six months in advance. I answered that with "because that's when the decision to go is made."

That's not the point. The point is that "planning the vacation," the point where the customer is evaluating the decision to go or not, occurs many months before the actual taking of the vacation. Even if the actual booking, needs to come later (time off approvals, saving money, waiting for discounts).
The thing is, 99% of the people going don't come to this site, and use the official WDW website for information. You cannot even select January 2016 for park hours yet, so the 99% would not even know that this may have been an issue. So it is a non-issue for 99% of the people going there, until they are actually at the 6 month period.

Those 99% aren't the ones who filled up the comments on that Frozen Ever After concept art story, though.

I am in no way suggesting it is the case here, but there have been cases of Disney leaking stories like this to gauge response before making an official announcement. They do read boards like this. Not that it is the case this time around.

It still may have been the case, since they released it to the TAs. They knew it would get out, and wanted to gauge how sites like this handled it. Heck, my wife read about it on Facebook of all places!

There is major push inside the company to remove more of the EMH benefit and replace it with the ability for resort guests to make additional FP+ reservations for each day of their vacation. I actually believe this would be a smart move. Also, in test surveys, staying open later for resort guests only always falls lower on the satisfaction meter than having additional fastpasses that can be planned anytime.

No matter what "official confirmation" Len Testa has gotten, I would take it with a grain of salt.

Removing EMH entirely has been the plan all along, and I posted about it here a long time ago... http://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/my-magic-details.867852/page-82#post-5699443

Biggest myth in WDW trip planning. You don't *have to* book dining reservations six months in advance. You can book dining reservations six months in advance.

You can and you really should because if you don't you won't be able to get any of the popular restaurants at normal times.

So, not so much a myth as a good tip.

Trying to trivialize peoples concerns with the old "the sky isnt falling" routine is a weak substitute for an intelligent response

I absolutely love the information this place provides and for some great conversations from time to time , but its comments like this that just keep me away from the doom and gloom mentality around here sometimes (most of the time)

The masses rebelled in in late 2001 into 2002 until they reinstated EMH, I have no doubt that this would happen again if they tried the same thing.
No one would rebel if all-of-a-sudden if you stay at a Disney Deluxe resort your allowed FP+ amount goes up to 10 per day instead of 3. And removing those Extra Magic Hours? No worries, the parks will just stay open later to everyone. It's becoming necessary from a crowd standpoint.

There is really no comparison to what happened in 2001 or 2002.

Except that mathematically everyone cannot have 10 FP+ per day...you'd hit a point where standby would disappear, and that couldn't happen due to day visitors and park hoppers etc.

It wouldn't surprise me if they returned to surprise mornings only and then kept the parks open later.
