No Extra Magic Hours Starting 1/1/16? Update: EMH to Continue

I think the parks would be better served to actually be closed from midnight to 8 am every night so that routine maintenance can be done.

I think this may be a key difference in experiences here. This affects those that travel during the (very narrowly) off-peak times of the year when the parks close so early anyway much more.

There are times of the year when AK closes at 5 or 6, DHS closes at 7, Epcot closes at 9, and MK closes as early as 9 on a normal night (7 on "hard ticket" nights). EMH make a significant difference in just being able to enjoy the parks after dark, let alone super-late.

The only time I've ever been in the MK at midnight is by buying a $60 ticket to a 5-hour event (and I've done it, a good many times - multiple times in a week before)...or EMH when parties aren't in season. DHS? Only way to be in the park after twilight. AK? It closes before the sun has even started to go down. EMH is the only way to see it after dark (which is a shame, because it's gorgeous).

So yeah, EMH is the deciding factor on if I ever stay on property again. I used to be a "I only stay on property" type, then when prices started to go up so and I realized how trapped I was without a vehicle, I started to fan out. I still stayed on property though at times when things were going to be closed up so early that EMH was the only option to enjoy the parks at what I think are their best - and it was the sole reason.

Now, I may be atypical - that's pretty sure, since I post on a Disney message board - none of us are "typical" - but when you look at the list of resort benefits, if this one is no longer there - it reduces an already pushing-the-limits list to really largely fluff. It is the one, solid "actually a benefit benefit" that wasn't about trapping you on site for their own benefit.

Has there been anything official, or is this thread just jumping to conclusions?

Nothing official yet - but it's a long-standing rumor that seems reenforced by several bits of evidence (the pull back of the TA version of the schedule is most interesting). They have also tried this before. I wouldn't be surprised at all, but of course it is unconfirmed.

I'm certainly speaking just of how much the benefit means to me - I think that's more the discussion going on, not "oh no what do we do" but "why does anyone care? well, let us tell you" LOL.

I'm just happy that the Osborne Lights are returning this year. That confirms that we won't see any major construction at DHS this year

Wow, took me a bit of time to read through 10 pages. I will say we miss the old $12 per person eride nights....but if they cancel EMH and bring back Eride nights I don't think it will be anywhere near that $12 per person price. But for us it was the best $$$$ spent. MK was so quiet and they had soooo many characters around the hub for photos.

If they do stop the EMH's we would change how we vacation....staying offsite in a condo or rental house. We are loyal Morning EMH's. Usually we try to be at the gates by 7:00 AM for an 8 AM EMH. We also do evening EMHs to enjoy the parks in the dark.

Just for fun, I priced out a one bedroom suite at a nice place across from Universal (can I mention the name?) and it came in at $108 per night plus tax for summer season with an immediately offered discount. It has all the stuff I would want at a resort including a private, furnished balcony, fitness center, pool bar etc. I would just need to rent a car. No EMH, no me staying onsite. It was the one perk left that I cared about. After my October 2014 trip, Disney transportation lost its appeal in a big way.

Here's the related info on EMH cuts:

June 15, 2015: WDWMagic.com user ISTCNavigator57 has reported that Disney has not listed any Extra Magic Hours on the Travel Agents calendar beginning January 1, 2016. WDWMagic.com user WDW1974 has followed this up saying that he expects Extra Magic Hours to be gone within two years.

January 1, 2013: The Disney World website posted that Evening Extra Magic Hours would be for 2 hours after park opening. Previously Evening Extra Magic hours were 3 hours.

August 1, 2011: The Magic Kingdom monorails reduces its hours to one hour after park close. This means it will not run during all of Extra Magic hours

July 11, 2011: The Epcot monorail reduces its hours to one hour after park close. This means it will not run during all of Extra Magic hours

February, 2011: Evening Extra Magic Hours were cut from Disney's Animal Kingdom

I understood your point Dave, was just saying the only time I heard them use limited, besides pin editions was the horrendous name of that marketing promo.

interesting trend each odd year........what will happen in 2017? @WDW1974 says it's coming around that time. If the trend continues, he will be right ( EMH will be gone )

E-Ride night was awesome. I don't know what people are talking about when it comes to being able to "do so much" during evening extra magic hours. In my recent experience, evening extra magic hours have been just as crowded as the rest of the park day. E-ride night was so limited, it was really a benefit worth paying for.

Plus you get all the off site guests who don't know what EMH are, and block the lines while the CM explain that if they are not staying on site, they can't ride..

The morning hours are nice, because they control who and when people can get in.

If they do go away, I'm sure something will replace it. I hope it is more than a couple of extra FP+, but that seems most likely.

I'm just happy that the Osborne Lights are returning this year. That confirms that we won't see any major construction at DHS this year

The only reason DHS is on our itinerary this fall.. we've never seen them and are looking forward to it. No one in our group is a fan of the thrill rides, so there is really only 2 rides that most of us will go on, and the shows..

but that's off topic in this thread.. ;)

Love a little Disney every day!! ;)
And one time guests spend more on their vacation than returning guests.
Not always the case. I know we spend just as much every trip, if not more than we did when we were first time guests on food, shopping, rooms (now DVC though) , Annual passes etc. :greedy:

If you only have new or one time guests, you never have to change or reinvest. You can also take away guest benefits and a large percentage of the audience will never know or care.

So it's not that odd....

It's odd because it goes against everything else the company has done/is doing for the past dozen years or so, though.
