I never said being shoved by someone Japanese was impolite. It could very well be that's something you do in their culture and they wouldn't think twice about it, not realizing it could be perceived as impolite in another culture. To turn it around, we may think it is impolite to belch, but another culture may think you were impolite by not belching which to them is signaling you didn't like the meal.

Having been to Hawaii twice, where the Japanese like to vacation, I can honestly say that I've never had one issue with them. They are second only to the British (or anyone from the UK really) as far as politeness goes.
