Nintendo partnering with Universal to make attractions.

This is Nintendo. It isn't going to be in the Kidzone area. Mario is the best selling video game series in history. Nintendo's character holds a timeless appeal and there's no way they're not getting their own land. They wouldn't have made the deal otherwise. This is after all Nintendo we're talking about.

a timeless appeal to us at the age where we remember playing on the 1st gen Nintendo and up... I agree there to some extent

I'm not sure about the entire "land" however... but we'll see. They certainly could do some cool stuff with this and then it wouldn't matter if it's Mario or Billy Bob

I would hope they do a pirates of the Caribbean type ride but with the legend of Zelda. Theming it to be similar to the snes game would be perfect. IF Universal does it as the same quality as harry potter then this could rock!!!.

This is incredible news! Years ago before the announcement of Pandora, I would toss around the idea of a possible Donkey Kong themed land at Animal Kingdom. Unfortunately, the masters of the universe didn't grant me that wish BUT... I am ecstatic to hear that Universal has inked a deal with Nintendo. Universal deserves it, hands down. Those guys have literally taking the flaming torch and hauled with it, so fast that Disney is nowhere near catching up. I'm proud of Universal.

Here's to hoping for a Luigi's Mansion attraction and a Legend of Zelda E-ticket. I also really want them to convert the Animal Actor's Show into Pokemon Stadium. I can just imagine the scope of awesomeness a show like that can bring.

If it's going to replace KidZone, does that mean E.T. is gone, or will they keep it?

As I stated above, let's hope he's not going anywhere. Although, the thing that worries me about Universal is, unlike Disney nothing is "sacred" to them. Just because an attraction is an original, doesn't mean it's off limits.

This is exciting news. Can't wait for the new Nintendo Land, I want an attraction that simulizates being in a Game and Watch, and they should create one!

There's nothing wrong with that. Just because it's an original doesn't mean it's good. In the case of E.T, I say good riddens. It's an awful attraction. What would you rather have; Mario, DK, and Zelda at Universal or E.T. and that awful kiddie land? I think the answer is a no brainer.

Even if E.T. does go, it doesn't necessarily mean he'll be gone forever. Kongfrontation closed nearly 13 years ago and within a year from now Kong will be back in an even bigger and better way. I'm with you though, E.T. is an absolute favorite of mines and shouldn't be touched. Here's to hoping that if E.T. does go "Home"... He'll be back in a similar fashion as Kong.

I really hope Metroid gets some love. Metroid has such potential for an awesome dark ride and I can't stand seeing the franchise so neglected. Donkey Kong also deserves a ride but I think it could work well as a show. The whole DK family could make for a good show which Universal is pretty lacking in.

Also, Disney needs to get their act together. In the past five years Universal has built a Harry Potter land (at two parks), King Kong land, Fast & the Furious Ride, Transformers ride, and Springfield. They also replaced Jimmy Neutron with Despicable Me. Meanwhile Disney added on to Fantasy Land with only two new rides, and did a facelift of Test Track.

They're slowly building the gigantic waste of money that is Avatar Land (they have no idea if Avatar 2 is ever even coming out or will even be a success) and a third track of Toy story. Then there's the vague promises of more Star Wars in the parks.

The Third Park BS is annoying I agree.

But as far as in the parks here are two areas to check out.

This is the area behind Simpsons and Kidzone (Including Kidzone). Nice size area.

This is the Toon Laggon area. Which includes 3 eateries and 2 rides, 4 gift shops and other wasted Space.

Didn't realize that there was that much land back there. I know E.T. is closing, and if they get rid of Fear Factor they could really have a nice Nintendo Themed area over there.

All I have to say is if Universal keeps Marvel, Harry Potter stays a hot commodity, and they build this new Nintendo themed area, Disney is really going to have its hands full. I love Disney but this a gamechanger if Disney doesn't announce something soon with Star Wars.

I understand the attraction isn't for everyone, and in it's current state I can see where people would not care for it, but here is where I believe Universal's "just bulldoze it" theory could be changed.

Why can't Universal take the budget of a new attraction and put that into a year long refurbishment to bring E.T. up to standards? In all honestly, when was the last actual refurbishment? It only seems lacking because there has been minimal love given to it throughout the years.

Also, maybe it's just me but it is nice to have an attraction that caters to both families and people who want actual animatronics (as much as I love FJ, the animatronic vs screen percentage is a little one sided in the current lineup of attractions).

Plus from what I heard, Steven wasn't happy that they closed the one in Hollywood.

Disney parks and revenue continue to go up without them building at lot of new rides, so management probably believes that they do "have their act together".

So why are we ruling out IOA? Toon Lagoon is pathetic and nothing in there is relevant at all.
Those two water rides, especially the rapids one, are pretty great in my opinion. I doubt they would get rid of them or simply give them an overlay.

The most logical theory (and it's all just speculation still) would be that it would replace KidZone. But we'll have to wait for more announcements and/or news from insiders before we'll know for sure. This really is exciting news though, especially so soon after the Kong announcement. I really didn't expect something else to be announced so soon!

I think this is more of a facade for the KidZone, and won't result in any huge rides. If it was some E-ticket worthy, Universal wouldn't have announced it this early. But then again, they do move fast, and a new coat of paint and some signage could be done by next year.

They're not just going to sign with Nintendo to reskin a few play areas.

In Orlando I can see either a retheme and expansion of the kidzone area or the Toon Lagoon area. Personally I would rather see attractions for the whole family instead of the Kidzone type stuff.

Think third park IMHO ... wonder who will get Minecraft rights ... just sayin'
