Nine Dragons Restaurant

How does the food there compare to generic Chinese food at generic local take-out places. I get General Tso's Chicken every weekend & wondered if the food there is great, better, or just "same crap...diff. location".

You'll get a lot of mixed opinions about this one, but my opinion is that Nine Dragons is not a bad restaurant at all depending on what you order (although they always seem to be eliminating the dish I enjoyed on a previous visit). It's not the best Chinese you can find, but is a step up from most local restaurants. And the dim sum menu was a nice addition with some good items, IMO.

My opinion may not matter here since it has been quite awhile (years) since I've dined at the Nine Dragons. I remember the atmoshpere and the service was excellent. Having an experienced palate for Chinese fare, I found The food however was bland to blah for what I was used to. I know the Chinese take out places you refer to in your post here and have several in my own town. I too am a General Tso's chicken fan and usually always order it. I have also dined in more upscale Chinese restaurants. Unless there has been a change, I don't plan to ever go back to the Nine Dragons.

It is usually a must do for our trip, some of the food there is much better than anything you can get around the places here. All chinese in my city tastes like a chain cause its all the same. EX: sesame chicken is the same as general tso except for the sesame seeds and some peppers. Nine dragons was definitely better than average but the best stuff i have ever had was in toronto and i don't even remember the name of the place.

I haven't been in quite a while, but my opinion seems to concur with many others here. They're charging pretty high prices for food you can kindly call mediocre at best. This is especially true if you're more used to paying "take-out" prices (at least in my neck of the woods, paying to dine-in usually costs a couple of dollars more).

If you HAVE to eat Chinese food, and you definitely don't want to go off-site, I doubt it'll give you searing abdominal cramps, but I also don't think you'll feel like you got your money's worth, either. The Unofficial Guide to WDW crucifies Nine Dragons, though (not just the reviewers, but readers who can send in a thumbs-up-or-down card on any resturant in WDW, plus comments, give this resturant pretty low marks), and it gives you a list of nearby restaurants, some just right outside of Downtown Disney, that serves better Asian food.

If you're willing to go off site China in Metro West is probably the best take out in Orlando which is not saying a great deal but it so much better then Nine Dragons. Everything is made fresh and you get a ton of food for a lot cheaper then Nine Dragons.

While I have not been in a while, I enjoyed ND everytime I went. Agree with the consensus here: it's good, but not the best Chinese you've ever had. I've heard raves about a place on I-Drive, but never checked it out (rather eat somewhere at Disney). FWIW.
