Good for WBD, which is a great service…but how is White Lotus acquired? Is it because it’s available immediately both on HBO and its streaming service at the same time?* So does Max “acquire” WL from HBO?

*(put another way - if Disney had a Disney Channel series they also streamed on D+ at the same time)

Same reason why Simpsons, Family Guy, Bobs Burgers, or even Grey's Anatomy is listed as Acquired even though Disney owns them. They are licensed content from one company to another, even if they are under the same umbrella.

White Lotus is an HBO show technically licensed out to Max for streaming. If it was a Max exclusive it would go under Original.

For this stat, they count all the avenues of content a company produces: all streamers (even if licensed to another company's streamer), all TV stations, and even YouTube videos that belong to a studio is counted for the studio, and not for YouTube.

So, e.g., all the YouTube videos of Colbert or Kimmel count toward CBS-Paramount and ABC-Disney, and not YouTube.

They're just looking at all content watched, and tracking which company in the end, owns that content.

Of that 72%, streaming is 42% of ad-supported TV, and cable and broadcast each are 28% of all ad-supported TV...

Netflix has done an amazing job at training their userbase to watch whatever new thing they put on their home page. I am very plugged into the film and TV world and some of these titles pulling into #1 the last few weeks I've never even actually heard of, nor do I see anyone else in the film and TV circles I roll in speaking about them. It's kind of impressive to watch the pavlovian habits of Netflix users and Netflix content.
The fact that Netflix, which was a neophyte company 20 years ago, came into Hollywood and is dominating the industry like it has is one of the most amazing stories in corporate media history. The stock is trading at $1200 a share with no signs of slowing down.

Dirty little secret from a Nielsen Family. I heard at a dinner party in April how awful With Love, Meghan was. Vapid, cloying, fake, cringey, unsafe (hair in food), painfully scripted, staged. Did I already say fake?

So.... earlier this weekend I watched it. Two whole episodes, because after I closed my wide open mouth at how stupid it was, I started laughing at it. I voted thumbs down on my Netflix account, and won't watch another episode.

But if you see a ratings blip for With Love, Meghan in the Nielsens, that was me. 🧐

I've been looking for it, but I don't think Nielsen has it on its free side, but there is a age breakdown of that list that shows 18-49 viewing. I've seen it on a few Youtubers videos, such as Grace Randolph who highlighted it.

It has several of those D+ shows up very high, such as Agatha All Along being up at number 5 I think. It interesting because while some deride the shows, Disney makes decisions based on these numbers. And it explains why some shows that seem not to have the "numbers" based on these weekly general lists end up having a more positive reaction by Disney.
