Here's my question:

Does Netflix disproportionately have shows reach the top of minutes watched because they'll dump every episode at once or within a couple of weeks? In contrast, platforms like Disney that stagger releases are spreading that watch time out across multiple weeks.

It's all about the minutes, so, movies have an advantage over a TV show. An hour long TV show episode has an advantage over a half-hour show. A multi-year series, Like FRIENDS, will be binged and have an advantage over almost everything else. A new TV series that drops the whole season, or does the double-episode trick*, will have an advantage over a series that releases one episode at a time.

There are other companies that are starting to track whole movies or episodes as a single "watch" and then count the number of "watches." This can be also be done by simply taking Nielsen's minutes-watched and dividing by the length of a show. E.g., the week the Agatha didn't make Nielsen's minutes-watched Top Ten, it made the Top Ten of "watches" for that week.

*The double-episode 'trick' is often used for new shows to hook viewers and isn't always all about getting in the Top Ten list.
