NFL 2013 Discussion Thread

I have Drew Brees as my QB and the Seahawks as my defense in fantasy. So this is basically going to be one cancelling the other out all night. It would be stressful if I wasn't already guaranteed to win this week.

Mike Tomlin has been fined $100,000 for his sideline incident. The NFL left the door open to taking away a draft pick, though.

Aaron Rodgers was limited in practice today, but McCarthy remained noncommittal when answering questions on whether Rodgers will play this week. McCarthy did say Rodgers looked good in his opinion, though.

Mike Smith said he is preparing as if Rodgers is starting.

So the fans have to suffer for it?

Hrmm.. that is a very weak branch to stand on. Should the Saint's staff not have been punished, so the team wouldn't have faultered, so the fans wouldn't have to suffer for the bounty-gate scandal?

A few years back, when the Jets' tripping-on-the-sideline incident happened, the Jets were not docked a draft pick.

And the guy involved was a low level conditioning coach - not the team's head coach. That's the difference.

I don't think Tomlin's incident can be compared to a several-year-long bounty scandal.

If you want to punish Tomlin, suspend him for a game without pay, along with the fine. I don't think the fans and team should have to suffer for one act from one man.

Scales are different - but the subject at hand is the same. The point is they punish the people involved - without regard for what the consequence to the fans will be. They don't go 'wow, we can't suspend Suh because that would hurt the Detroit playoff hopes and the fans wouldn't like that'.

The team always suffers when an individual does something against the rules. Be it taking a 15yrd penalty for a personal foul, taking a suspension and having to sit out a game, or more.

The significance here is that this isn't just 'one man' - it's the freaking head coach. The NFL will be out to send a message that this won't be tolerated... and BTW.. get out of the white stripe. It's been called twice in the last two weeks on teams. The NFL refs are coached in what the league office wants to emphasize on a week to week basis.

No
I'm with @flynnibus on this one. This is the head coach. He should be held to higher standards. The Ravens and the Steelers have a rilvalry. That does not give either team license to taunt the other. Yes he acted alone, but if the attitude is allowed to continue, it can go down through the ranks and then they have an even bigger problem. And if coaches from other teams think that they can do this and only get fined, the NFL now has a bigger problem. If they want to make the point that this is unacceptable behavior, they must make the point.

Jaguars win their third straight game? Is this real life? I thought they wouldn't even get 3 wins this season after they way they played earlier in the season.

Wade Phillips will act as the interim head coach for the Texans.

Personally, I'm not a fan of firing coaches during the season. It seems like at the end of the season, the change is good, but then they stick with that coach for the next season, and they bomb that season as well. It's kind of like a false-hope. Meanwhile, I still don't know why Jason Garrett is a head coach.

Gary Kubiak has been fired as head coach of the Texans.

Getting swept by the Jags while you just signed your 'franchise' qb last season and going from 10 and 12 win seasons to this... can't say I'm suprised :) Don't think it will fix things, but something had to break.

Plus, their 4th down call last night came back to haunt them.
