Here's a fun fact: Peyton Manning is the only QB playing in the divisional round that was not drafted by an MLB team. Brady, Wilson, and Kaepernick all were.

Manning did play baseball in HS as a shortshop but he simply wasn't good enough. And here's something ironic. Guess who was one of his backups at Tennessee? It was Todd Helton, the legendary Rockies first basemen!

And speaking of which, there is six degrees of Kevin Bacon for athletes. Well, sort of! Never thought a site actually existed around here!

A store in NYC is already selling Patriots AFC Champions t-shirts. Perhaps they are trying to curse them.

I HOPE SO!!! :D

Interesting. I knew about Wilson (Rockies), but the other two. Kinda makes Payton seem like a slacker. ;)
Also makes a case for having your kid play baseball if you entertain any thoughts of trying to make him into an NFL quarterback.

The best connection I have for Peyton with baseball is that he was a "back-up" quarterback for Todd Helton at Tennessee and started playing when Helton (and some other guy I do not know) got hurt. Todd Helton just retired from a long career as a star for the Colorado Rockies.
Peyton was on hand for Helton's last home game...and gave Helton a horse . And when Helton was honored at a Broncos game, he was an honorary captain with Peyton for the coin toss.

I am SO nervous for today.

The day has arrived. In less than 9 hours, America will know if the 2013/2014 hype around Manning was legit, or faux. Everything he has worked for this season comes down to today's game (for history's sake). If he defeats the Patriots & advances into the Super Bowl, he will have shown he truly deserves all the publicity surrounding him. If Brady advances, he will not only dethrone Peyton's season...but answer all questions as to who deserves the hype, and who is only hack. For both star QB's, today is just as important as any Super Bowl could be.

If Brady wins today, he will have made the Super Bowl in half of the seasons he played (sans his torn ACL season, I believe). I don't know if that's true, but that's what I read.

And I half wonder if Peyton would retire after this season, should he win the Super Bowl. Pull a John Elway-like exit. I kind of hope he does, because if he returns next season and performs well, he will most likely break several of Brett Favre's records. And I want a Packer to keep those record.

No way he retires IMO - he has no real reason to. He's not getting beat up... he has a great team around him with no sign of dismantling coming.... he's not fighting chronic injury.

As for records - as long as the game keeps changing towards supporting the offense and passing like it has... all the old records are going to get taken down regardless. The game is not the same as it was. Ideas like '400 yards a game' are going to be more common than not. 40+ pass attempts.. etc.

I'm going bold with my SF-SEA pick. I think SF is strong enough to pull it off. Even with kapernick's past against SEA... SF Defense has shown it's ready... I think they pull out a game winning drive.

And as much as I hate picking against brady and what he can do with midget recievers... I think the Broncos are just too much offense. I don't think we'll see any 'let the defense win it..' this year.. Manning goes full speed.

I doubt he retires, too, but it's always a possibility. He did acknowledge he's on the home stretch of his career.

As for the records being broken, it's true. All of these record will be broken by the time the current generation of the NFL retires.

I think both games could go either way, tough to pick but im going with a Denver-SF super bowl
I think either could go either way, too, but I'm picking SEA-DEN. I choose Denver just because Manning is at home with more offensive weapons. It's a toss up for me, though.

I choose Seattle because they are at home. If they were at SF, then I'd pick SF. The X-Factor for me is Colin Kaepernick. He's a great athlete, but his arm has a lot of room for improvement. He seems like a streaky passer to me. Sometimes he is on fire, but then sometimes he has a terrible game. Last weeks against the Panthers, I saw three throws that looked like easy completions, but he was just off-target. And I don't think he'll be able to win with his legs against Seattle's defense.

I would kind of like to see Brett Favre's have his records broken. I just dislike him (Don't worry I like your current QB despite those annoying State Farm ads) and think Peyton deserves a better legacy than he does.
