Next generation FASTPASS system to begin guest testing this week

I know I'll be interested to see how this works out. I'd have to say that if I was selected to be part of the test group, my family wouldn't have taken part. We enjoy spontaneity on our trips to Disney. Not saying this is a bad program, just not for us.

Very interesting.

Are they still planning on using the wrist bands?

Initially, I was not too keen on the idea of planning FPs in advance, but I can see the appeal of setting your times for rides like Soarin and TSMM.

As long as you can still get the impromptu FP, I could see this working for us.

My AP expires tomorrow. I won't be renewing.

But that is just because I don't have a trip planned any time soon. It has nothing to do with xpresso-magico.

What about for people who don't get e-mail on there phones?

And also non-US visitors who dont carry their phones around the parks or who cant get email because of the roaming charges they would incur?

Also, what about those NOT staying on Disney property? Does this mean we wont be able to get fastpasses for the most popular rides and would have to wait for hours in stand by lines?

I'm not sold on this, it seems Disney is alienating a lot of its guests and punishing them for not staying on property.

AKA Have fun waiting 3 hours in line for Soarin' and TSMM if you don't use it.
That will depend on how they do things. If they throw 75%-100% of the days fast passes into the Xpass queue then you would be correct. However, I have a feeling that they will be putting a considerably smaller ratio into Xpass. This will of course make fast passes a little harder to get but not impossible.

Where in the posted information is there anything that mentions the need for email on a smartphone? Also, if it was somehow required (which again doesn't look like it is) I wouldn't blame Disney for using it. Why would they not use technology that most people now have in their pocket. No one will force you to change your phone, but you also can't expect full benefits of something if you don't want to adapt with the changing world technology. Windows 7 won't run on a PC from 1995. If you want to take advantage of what it has to offer, then you would have to upgrade your PC.

Well it seems that Disney is trying to alleviate that issue with WiFi being added for free at the resorts and eventually the parks (if the permits are to be believed). Fastpass distribution will work exactly like it does now, but it seems there will just be less fastpasses at the parks because some will be reserved at home by guests. You'll still get your fastpasses from the kiosk just like you do now. You just might have to be a bit more strategic. Remember that there was a time when we always had to wait in standby lines and no one died from it...it can be done.

The resort issue...well I don't see it as Disney punishing non-resort guests as opposed to providing people more of a reason to stay with them. Most people on these forums praise Universal for giving their resort guests express pass which gives them UNLIMITED front of the line access. Also, for Joe Schmo staying at a non-uni hotel he can shell out big bucks in order to use the system. Why does it all of a sudden become a crime when Disney wants to do something (and even a more limited system) to provide benefits for people to stay at their resort hotels? Why does Disney get bombarded with negativity when they are acting as a business trying to gain a distinct advantage over their competition? I think that we should be happy that Disney gives us a free system to save us a few minutes in line and didn't start charging for it 10 years ago. I personally cannot say I have been to any other theme parks where I have had the opportunity to skip any line without a (substantial) fee. If that system alters a little and makes you wait in one more line, I would say be happy that you aren't waiting in 5 more lines.

We'll see. I'm eager to see the end result and how it will affect my vacations.

I just hope they don't open up the FP reservation system 180 days in advanced like the Dinning Plan. Park hours can change, Extra Magic Mornings and events can make a guest change their park days close to the start of a vacation. I don't want to be committed to a Park that far ahead of time. I hope they don't open the reservation system up until 2 weeks ahead at the earliest.

Hmm the way they present it is very nicely sugar coated but at the end of the day your schedule is planned out for you at that specific park. I not a fan of planning at all. I have a hard terrible Time getting back to one fp ride with a baby I don't even want to think about 6! But for guest with no small children and planning to stay the whole day at one park I can see it being genius like how they are presenting it.
Very unhappy about it BUT I would be open to try just to confirm my opinion or not.

Will the new system allow you to schedule FP for multiple parks in the same day? (i.e. will it allow for park hopping?) If you wanted to schedule a 2pm Soarin' and a 7pm Space Mountain, is that possible?

Also, I agree with the sincere hope this doesn't turn into ADR's. It's my birthday next month but instead of booking a restaurant in say April or so once we figure out our plans, it needs to be done in November. That's just absurd. I can't imagine how much more absurd it would be to try and pick what rides you want to ride 6 months out.

I hear this a lot, but from my experience (and in the past year I got a lot of it) it just doesn't seem to be the case outside a few very popular places. I am having dinner at Citrico's next week and booked the restaurant no more than a month ago. I make a lot of last minute trips to the world now that I live close and don't usually have a problem getting a place that I enjoy. Sure, it might not be open availability at Ohana or in the Castle during Christmas time, but for the most part I can find over 40 choices for dinner the day before.

(I reread this and realized the tone might be a bit harsh, but it wasn't supposed to sound that way)
