It's a Canadian thing.

Actually, it's more of a Newfoundlander thing. Would you believe that most Newfie jokes come from Newfies. We like poking fun at ourselves (I know, we're an odd bunch!):lol:

In fact, what Americans quaintly refer to as "Canadian Bacon" is referred to here as either "Back Bacon" or "Pea-meal Bacon". Where ham comes from the leg of the pig, back bacon comes from the back and standard breakfast bacon comes from the belly {in the US only bacon from the belly can be called "Bacon" - any other cut has to have some qualifier added ['smoked pork loin bacon, back bacon, etc...]}
