Pretty dumb topic to write an article on but hey thanks for the publicity I guess if you're Disney...man is it bad that it's 630 in the morning and all I want for breakfast now is to chew a turkey leg down to bone and cartilage lol :D

Wow!?! the front page of the New York Times? must be a rather slow news day

Not the front page of the paper...front page of the business section. On a Saturday, no less, which is the lowest selling day of the week for papers. And it's during a traditionally slow news week, to boot. I wouldn't read too much into it.

I'm kind of giggling about the people who think they burn off the calories from a turkey leg by walking around the parks during the day, though.

"We always get one because they’re filling for the price, and they’re not bad for you,” said Jena Gibson, 18, adjusting her red sequined Minnie Mouse ears."

Whaaa? Okay, I can understand "them not being bad for you" because part of the magic of Disney is that there are no calories in any Disney Food so eat and buy as much food as you want, but the price of these things have gone up like $1 every year since the Disney Dining Plan. And remember, the more they raise the price, the bigger and better the Disney Dining Plan looks. OMG, I just got a free $11, $12 turkey leg!! NO ways!!!1! Pft.

*This may just be a case of correlation is not causation. The price of meat has gone up a lot in general since they introduce the DDP.

Price goes up with demand if supply does not increase as well.

I love BBQ and smoked meats. In all my Disney-going, I've only had one turkey leg. They just don't appeal to me. Not my idea of walking around food. Sorry. Just don't get it.:cat:

They are actually over 1,000 calories, have 54 grams of fat and over 5 GRAMS (not mg)of sodium!

Oh no, not fat!

Once again, our mass media continues to perpetuate craptastic, dated nutritional information to an already obese nation.

Eating fat doesn't make you fat. Sodium intake is largely irrelevant unless you have a specific genetic predisposition to high blood pressure and sodium sensitivity. And the human gastrointestinal tract is not a perfect thermodynamic engine...total calories doesn't necessarily mean as much as the composition of those calories and your specific metabolic type.

Skip the Mickey Bar and hit the turkey leg. Your waistline and long term health will both be better off for it.

They taste like salt. That the only flavor. You might as well just grab a free pack of salt and pour that on your tongue. The pack of salt would be cheaper and healthier. They're also full of stringy stuff.

The one time I got one, I threw it out and ended up eating something else.

I've never understood why people eat those things...but I do enjoy seeing a big, fat guy walking along, gnawing on one, like he Henry VIII. :)

For some people, it isn't all about how much they weigh. Many people avoid things like fat and sodium for health reasons. They don't do it because of what they saw on TV. They do it because their doctor advised it.

If you cut fat out and stick with very low sugars and salt, you're almost guaranteed to lose weight, though. There isn't much left when you cut that stuff out. Fruits, veggies, salad greens, little bits of Kleenex... :)
