New York Times Front Page Turkey Leg Expose

The article said 720 calories? Does Disney have a nutrition thing that says 1,000?

No, but the internet does.;) There are only about 50 places to find the nutritional data for a smoked turkey leg. It's actually closer to 1,100 calories.

Read that whole article. At the bottom they break out the turkey leg data vs what McDonalds offers.

Disney Turkey Leg 1,092.5 calories 52.8 fat 5,283.5 mg sodium

Wow!?! the front page of the New York Times? must be a rather slow news day

It is pretty slow during this time of year, but look that it is in the business section. It was probably on front to provide some levity to the other serious stories, nothing unusual. Source: I work in news.

That is a lot of calories...and I never eat them, but it's not because of health...when I am in the world I generally don't think about what I eat...I reason it out with anything I could possibly eat...will most likely be burned off...we had multiple days this last trip where several pedometers/fitbits people in the group had were saying we walked the equivalent of 8-10+ miles...

Guess you just don't notice it walking around the park all day! Except AK...it feels like 7 miles just to get to the entrance there...

One Little Spark...
"Of the 12 million children’s meals Disney serves annually, for instance, more than 50 percent now come with milk, juice or water instead of soda."

Huh? Kids can choose whatever drink they want.

The turkey legs have a lot of fat and calories, but how many people totally finish them off anyway? I rarely get them, but I only ever get through about half...because I don't want to keep carrying it around or I just get full.

I like that article. It's better than non-stories about Disney and gambling and family values that shouldn't leave talk radio. Although I would've written it a bit edgier than a human interest travel section fluff piece.

"Ever since they were introduced in the late 80s, the sale of Turkey legs has grown, and exploded in recent years". Quite. WDW tourism really has shifted towards 'taking selfies of you gobbling up a thousand calorie snack in a cave man pose, all in broad public'. :grumpy:

'when you went to WDW in the eighties the culinary highlight of your Disney trip instead was admiring the Louis XV furniture aboard a replicated paddlewheel steamboat for which you dressed up including the children and etc etc'

Many people have trouble finishing off those legs. I'm a former food & beverage CM that bussed tables and took out the trash at DHS' Sunset Market Ranch, where the legs are sold and gorged upon. I saw the mass of meaty leftovers firsthand, and this was back in 2009, before they got beefed up

Personally, I prefer Gaston's skank. It's more tender and juicy and a lot less salty.
