We are flying in to Orlando around 3pm on Dec. 31st. I don't want to go into the parks that night and deal with the crowds. It is just going to be me and my 11yrs old son. I'd like to be able to see some fireworks. We are staying at POFQ. Does anyone have an idea of what we should do?

You could make reservations at a restaurant like California Grill and watch the fireworks from the Contemporary Resort instead of going into MK park, or maybe you don't even need a rezzie to watch them from the rooftop deck! I was at Disney for New years eve '09 but I don't know all the secret spots for watching fireworks outside the parks. Maybe someone else knows great viewing locations from the Disney resorts! :)

Thanks for the California Grill idea... I had thought of that but I didn't know if they will have some big $ fee for dinner and fireworks that night. But thanks for answering.

You might be able to just stay where you are, if you don't mind seeing them at a distance.

My mom and I staying at Pop Century on July 4th a few years back. We had gone to the parks early, but were exhausted by the afternoon and went back to the hotel and even with a nap were too tired to go out again, even though Mom really wanted to see fireworks.
We were staying in the 50's building, third floor, looking north, and I realized that looking out from the balcony, I could see the top half of Spaceship Earth. So just before the fireworks were supposed to go off, we took our chairs from the room, and put them out on the balcony and got a very nice view of the fireworks from Epcot and DHS, we could even see MK's fireworks in the far distance.

To make a long story short (too late), I *think* you could see them from your hotel, as it's just as close (if not closer) than the Pop Centy, thus saving a drive amongst the revelers. I'd say- ask for parking lot view (thus facing west) from Building 3 or 4, top floor. That should do it.

you could head over to the beach that fronts the Yacht Club..and Beach club..these are extreamly close to Epcot so I would imagine you would have a nice view...also the beach at Poly...or grand floridian would also net you good views.
