New 'Wilderness Explorers' game play testing in Disney's Animal Kingdom

Ahhhh so finally I get my answer. Back in early 2010 while I was a CP I heard some chatter about a Pixar presence coming to Africa. I couldn't figure out what it could be. Didn't want to post it here because I heard overheard a higher up talking about it and I wasn't sure how closely our internet use was being monitored. Slipped my mind since then though.

Looking forward to seeing it. Glad to see Up getting some more love. DAK is a great fit for the movie.

Is there a way to request to play this? We are going in a few weeks and my daughter would adore this kind of thing. Does anyone know where to look out for it?

Yes, it's fun and engaging and a new way of looking at/exploring the parks. I think it helps tell a story and unite the various lands/pavilions in the parks and can only serve to "plus" the parks.

Agreed! I learned more about the China and Germany pavilions in World Showcase by doing the KP game with my family than I ever did just strolling around.

Im a fan of humor and entertaining TV but having tried to sit down and watch a whole episode of phineas and ferb is not something I will do ever again. Its really not good and the hype around it blows my mind.

Agreed, it's a great show and all but it's extremely hyped up imo. Story line is cute, but so repetitive, makes me want to poke my eyes out. :dazzle: Hopefully something that will be relevant longer than Phineas and Ferb would be placed in DHS.

In respect to a new interactive experience at AK, I am 100% for anything that will teach kids respect for nature and the amazing animals that inhabit our planet. I always hated to see the interactive Discovery stuff being passed by so often by the masses at AK. Now that I am a parent, you can bet that when she is old enough to appreciate such an experience, she will be participating.

We are already working to make sure that our little 20 month old understands that animals are to be respected and looked at with a certain amount of amazement. She has already become quite fond of all manner of birds. She met her first FL Box Turtle a few weeks back. She also enjoyed her first encounter with a big long fat earthworm. She loves the chickens, rabbits, horses, and alpacas at her great grandma's farm too. Oh, and if there is a frog within 50 feet, she is all over it. She loves frogs. Her love of frogs was destined, being that we did her room in an offbeat Princess & the Frog theme. She has lots of frogs other than Tiana and Naveen in her room. She loves her Disney puppies, Patch and Pluto and thinks that kitty Marie is just wonderful too. She also has a Bullseye rocking horse, a Duffy Bear in PJ's, and a Pooh & Tigger. Oh, and of course she has the main mouse Mickey.

Ok, enough parental like rambling. :p Back to the banter about this new interactive feature.

Since I know nothing about this game....why is that a good thing?

Oh, I didn't mean it that way. I meant "at least" to imply that if they do decide to keep it on, that would be a change to the scheduled end of the test. It wasn't meant as a value statement. But i can see how you might read the sentence that way.

I'd say both Animal Kingdom and almost attractionless World Showcase needed the extra activity. If parks aren't brought to their full potential, some extra umph is always nice.

Ahhh, the death of the passive entertainment experience. Entertain me! or else!

World showcase is about atmosphere, and the experience, finding your special moments, searching the nooks and exploring the cultures presented.. maybe even leaving a little better for it. To as smaller point, this is similar to AK. That is why so many people skip the trails, and run to Everest.

The only thing missing in World showcase is a roller coaster.

I think it is possible to simultaneously believe that the passive experience of Epcot/AK is great, and think that they aren't living up to their full potential.

Btw, there are fans who don't want to change everything and don't hate every change. It's the other 99% of fans, who like some changes, yearn for others, and hope some classics stay the same.

In fairness, Disney has consciously moved away from DAK being a "discovery park" in recent years. A number of the "secret" trails don't even exist anymore, as they've purposely let vegetation obscure them enough so that they're inaccessible.

Isn't their newest addition, Wild Africa Trek, based exactly on discovery.

Did I miss something when I took it? I have no idea how discovery tied into the Wild Africa Trek. They might as well have said - "The better safari we are making you pay extra for." There really wasn't much else to it..

Most testing at WDW has a set end date. The set it up and test for a day or two and then pack it all up. It may never surface again. Like when they pre-tested the interactive queue for HM. The "sign" was in the queue for like 2 days, and then never seen again. Or when they took over the RnRC queue area to test the queue-less queue that is supposed to be implemented for Dumbo. A quick test, just enough to gauge how it works and find major issues before rolling out a new system entirely.
