Havn't posted here in a while, but had the idea to continue with Disney's waterpark theme and come up with Earthquake Lake Waterpark. I thought it would be a great park for The Disneyland Resort, but it could also work great at Walt Disney World.
The theme is based on a small town & neighboring national park which just happens to lie in the middle of a fault zone. The town has experienced many earthquakes throughout the decades all the way back to its gold mining days, but this was the big one turning the town into chaos and has left the nearby dam in dangerous shape. The quake resulted in underground water sources bursting into the old mine shafts leaving the area full of mudslides, waterfalls, and more.
So, there's a little backstory for you. It could use some work, but I trust that you get the general idea. Basically the park is built like a mountain valley with two peaks (Mount Schake & Raddle Ridge) on either side.
The middle of the park contains Aftershock Bay which is the parks wave pool. The waves are created at the oneset of aftershocks which take place every so often. The backdrop of the wavepool is a dam which has been damaged to the point that it could burst at any moment. Cracks spew water and the pressure behind the damn is very evident.
One of the family raft attractions Rictor Road Rapids is based on a 2 lane mountain highway full of curves that has turned into a fast paced water chute. The slide will be themed to a highway with double yellow line down the middle, guardrails for sides, and road signs along the way.
The children's area will and neighboring area will featuing town buildings with broken water pipes everywhere. Every so often the aftershocks in the area will dump the town's watertower full of water onto the kids below.
The Tremor River is the park's lazy river that travels around the majority of the park. It provides scenic trees through past boulders and pine trees. It also features the occasional waterfall. Of course, when the aftershocks hit the area, a portion of the lazy river turns in a torrent river with waves. The highlight of the lazy river is the long themed tunnel that it passes through which provides a similar experience to the earthquake scene in Big Thunder Mountain with shaking boulders and sound and lighting effects.
Other attractions at the park are your typical tube slides which have various earthquake, gold mine, and national park themes. Two tallest slides from the park sit at the damaged Ranger Station at the top of Mount Schake. One final attraction will be similar to a halfpipe water attraction called Mudslide Dive. It will obviously be themed to a mudslide...without the actual mud.
In all, the park will be relatively small due to space constraints at the Disneyland Resort. It could be placed in the ever famous strawberry fields there, but I think that it although it would be a tight squeeze that it just may work in the parking lot adjacent to Katella Ave. and the Paradise Pier Hotel. The parking lot would be replaced by a parking garage located elsewhere on the property that would also make up for the parking lost with the Carsland Expansion.
At the Walt Disney World Resort, it would go great with the Wilderness Lodge theme and would help fill the void that River Country left.
Comments, suggestions, and additional input on ideas are welcome. I have sketched a few drawings, but havn't had the chance the scan them. They arn't much anyways.
Thanks.
