I was there the same exact time as you (maybe on the same boat) and I never saw this. The idea for DVC was just announced recently and they haven't even begun construction on it yet. So it couldn't have been.

I rented a canopy boat and traveled up and down all the back water ways. It was empty. But the junk might have just been from wild partiers or a flood. I know people were staying at the DI but I saw no one in a treehouse on the Sassagoula River. Then again they might have just been fixing up a few. But it still loked empty.
