New wait time application for iPhone

that's probably why COP at a 2 hr wait...it also said that SGE had a 2 hr wait :ROFLOL:...i wouldn't wait 10 for that ride

I'm glad that you all are finding humor in this, however,
ponder this:
What if your little program said that Soarin had a 70 min wait?

Lets look at the 2 possible scenarios:
Scenario #1
Disney publishes the times:
You see 70 min wait, you head that way to test your "little friend," you discover this to be fairly accurate. You you gain trust. Each time, each ride your "little friend" is as accurate as the ride boards.

Scenario #2
General public publishes times:
You see 70 min wait, you head that way to test your "little friend," you discover this to be fairly accurate. You you gain trust.
Next time, not so accurate. You get there and there is no wait.

You begin to wonder what could have happened in Scenario #2.
Then it hits you... :hammer: Spring Break. Yep, You guessed it. :sohappy:
All the college kids inflated the wait times to make people think the wait time was higher then it is so they could ride it multiple times with no wait.

Not that it could be sooooo drastic, but that was the point I was trying to make. :D

I think it is a concern we all have. There are dozens of ways that this can go wrong and only one way that it can go right. Not exactly the best odds.

Master Yoda - did you see the article in the Jacksonville Fishwrap yesterday?

Anyway, another article on the application...seems like the guy lives here in Jacksonville...but plans on going to the parks every day this summer! Long drive for every day...:veryconfu

I think this guy say he is going to use retired orlando residents who have Fla annual passes and visit the park every other day just to sit on the park benches. He may need at 3 or 4 these people per parks to keep and eye on the wait time boards and post them on some kind of phone.
I found out on my last trip that even Disney do not do a good job of posting wait time on their Board in the Hub. The wait time posted on the Hub board verus what posted at the attraction seem to be way off.

Even Hersheypark has it's own mobile website. Granted, it doesn't have current wait times, but it does have show times, park hours, ride information and currently closed rides. I used it last summer when we were there and it was very accurate and well-updated. If a park that's only open for a few months a year can do it, Disney shouldn't have too much of a problem. I'm interested to see what the Verizon App will have.

Here's the link to the Hershey site: http://www.hersheypark.com/mobile/index.php

Verizon Coming in the Future

Keep in mind that Disney has already announced a partnership with Verizon that will deliver some park content to mobile devices. The biggest issue with this is that Verizon does not have any of the high profile phones (Google Android, Palm Pre, Apple iPhone) right now. They support a number of BlackBerrys and that should help come since more consumers are now buying those for personal use.

I'm looking forward to seeing what Disney comes up with and hope that its not limited to just Verizon phones, but I expect there will be extra content you get as a Verizon users at a minimum. Bottom line on the iPhone is that I don't expect to see Verizon create an App for a phone they can't have on their network. If Verizon gets into the game next year with the iPhone (when AT&T's exclusivity is up for renewal) then that may change.

I did find some of the map applications useful on my recent trip to Disneyland (went for the first time). This was especially true for the applications that gave you a GPS location to show where you were with the map.

I think they should just have a local wifi, and a internal website with the wait times so you have to be inside the park to view the times

I'd be happy with wifi throughout the property. I'd gladly pay [within reason :lookaroun].

I remember waiting for the Magic Kingdom and the man who made this app came up and talked to me while I was playing with my Ipod Touch.

"Is that an Iphone?"

"No"

"Ok."

Shortest conversation I've ever had in a Disney Park.
