New Type of Scanner at Turnstiles

I did a search on this and didn't see a post on it.

While at the world last week, upon entering one of the parks, I believe it was MK, they had a new scanner at two of the turnstiles. Instead of having to put your fingers in, all you had to do is put just your index finger on the top of it. This worked much easier than the other way. I guess they are experimenting to find something that would be easier, because getting your fingers to squeeze just right is a real pain in the butt.

I went to MK on Friday and got to use those. They are alot easier for people that are new to the idea to operate. Some people just don't get the "Place your index and middle finger in there only and squeeze." I've seen people put their entire hand into the other scanners, repeatedly, after having the CM at the entrance show them which fingers to use.

I was at Busch Gardens Europe (Williamsburg) today and they have the biometric scanners there too - but they use the entire hand. And it took about 20 seconds for the entire process.

I liked them. But the other parks don't have them. Disney should put them in every park not just one park. When I went there last monday and then went to Ak because it had EMH that evening. I didn't like putting the fingers in. The fingers thing is really slow. The fingerprint on is a smart and faster way to get people into the park.

No offense but if you did in fact do a search you would have seen this thread:

Thanks for the info but it had already been posted with pics and details on the design/implimentation.

Yes I did a search and I didn't see it and it didn't come up, it was the words I used to seach that didn't bring it up, the seach system isn't perfect nor the searcher.

Please realize that the previous threads (there were multiple) had a lot of details and information that others may want to read. I'm glad he posted so everyone can read previous comments.

Really, squeezing doesn't do anything. There is nothing to squeeze. What the purpose of that is just to get you fingers close enough so it can read it properly. Sometimes the machines are dirty, and it is not the guest who does anything wrong, it just takes a while for the machine to have a complete and proper scan.

The new readers at the Magic Kingdom are still biometric readers, not fingerprints, I believe. The new scanners were installed at a few turnstyles a few months ago, and they have now been installed on all the Magic Kingdom Turnstyles. Word has it that if it works well, it won't be long until they are installed at all the other parks.

The two finger reader worked fairly well for me this year. The thing that was different this year was when I returned to a park on the same day, the ticket shot thru the machine and let me in without the need for reading my fingers again.

The biometric system is annoying slow and so un-Disneylike inefficient. Cast Members constantly have to punch in a code to let people in when the machine failed to read their fingers. It's long overdue the time to junk it! :lookaroun

I think Disney is waiting to see how successful the new biometric system turns out to be before installing it at the other 3 parks. I personally think its a lot easier to use (and it looks more friendly too.)

I couldn't use the "two-finger" scanners they have because I don't actually have fingers. Could any tell me how "much" finger the new scanners actually need to scan? Basically, I have three toes, the great toe and the two beside it, that were transferred to my left hand. I'm wondering if I'll fare better with the newer scanners?

Ultimately, I'll find out for myself when I get there in February, but thought I'd ask... :animwink:

I never understood what seemed so difficult to people about the scanners. I'm always standing there in my head going, "hello, just put your fingers in...no not like that...just...!" Clearly, I'm not a very patient person!

I honestly don't care what they have as long as it gets me into the park asap! I get antsy when I can see SSE and I can't get to it!

All parks will be getting the new turnstile system. MK was the first and is still working with getting all the configs right before it is rolled out property wide.

Actually....they've been testing these at MK for about 2 months or more now....I posted something about this in late May, though I can't find the thread right now.

I had the chance to use these new scanners in June.

It was very quick and nice, I hope that they do indeed expand to the other parks some time.
