New Transportation Option to/from MCO for Deluxe Resort Guests

This is an interesting move. They’ve been rolling out the bag check-in at Pop, correct? Some viewed that as a possible precursor to a potential return of DME. But then they go and do this deluxe experience. I’m not sure if this makes it more or less likely we see some sort of return to a DME type model?

Maybe not compared to 10 people, but we are a family of 5 so need at least an Uber XL and it is usually ~$65 or so each way - so the Minnie Van is about 3x that

Regular Uber/Lyft can be as low as $35 if only 2 of us
65 for 5 is a pretty good deal. The last 3 times we have gone we have driven so has e been an issue. With only 2-3 people I can’t see much beating uber at those prices

It can vary based on when you arrive (surge pricing, etc), so can be a little lower than that but also could be like $85 or even a little more.

Guess at least with this you know what you are paying.

But agree for 2-4 people Uber/Lyft (I have found Lyft the generally be about 10% less than Uber) is most cost effective option

Is availability/scheduling a problem with uber/lyft? Like we have a couple times flown out super early, or Due to delays from nyc came in super late. Is it a problem getting an uber dor say a 3:30/4am pick up? That was the best part of using private car service, having set time they would be there

The area north of the airport are jammed with waiting drivers all times of the day. I have seen dozens to hundreds waiting for the call. This was 5 years ago but I doubt it's changed. Hit the Wawa up that way and it's hard to find a place to park with all the occupied vehicles.

Maybe the plan is to just offer or prioritize something like DME for Value/Moderate guests instead of Deluxe?

On my last trip I took the Lynx bus for $2 and on the way back I took an Uber all the way up to the Sanford airport for $42.

I don’t think I’m the target market. (I also don’t usually stay at deluxe sadly :( )

Is Sanford the airport that has an air national guard component right at the commercial airport? We scheduled depositions at the world of golf and I remember it being cool flying in and seeing fighter jets around the runway when we landed

Honestly never been there quite that late but never an issue around midnight or 1am. I think by the airport is never really an issue.

If you were coming back to the airport with an early pick up time definitely could pre schedule something with U er/Lyft

Definitely understand the benefit of knowing something will be there waiting for you - one reason we did the private car for a while when kids were young

For those that don't know, this is not a new service. It used to be offered, but of course the price has been increased by $100 round trip on this rollout.

I didn’t notice it - but certainly could be. I love flying out of there to avoid the crazy of flying out of MCO.

I did notice that they don’t have TSA there - but a different kind of security. It’s the same process of course.

If they include door to door baggage handling then maybe but this is aimed squarely at Bob's preferred guest and Josh's target demo (I am neither) seems way too much to me
I use Mears, so not for me. I wouldn't pay that, even if the driver picked me up and carried me to my resort room, lol.

Minnie Vans are popular, I'm sure there's people who'd pay for this without blinking an eye, though. Good for them.

$200 each way…?
😳

Maybe I am behind the times when it comes to ‘ride services’ but that seems extremely high to me.

I will stick with the $36 round trip rate from Mears, thanks.
Comfy seats, great AC, luggage handling, and I don’t have to drive.
Bliss.

If enough people use the Mini Van service then there will not be a return of DME. I don’t understand why people keep giving Disney all this extra money.

How is it “extra money?”

Any place you are traveling to, except maybe cruises, once you fly into the area you are visiting, you need to get yourself from the airport to your final destination. This isn’t rocket science.

Each van sits I believe either 6 or 7 people, which would actually make it cheaper per person than the 36 dollars you quoted. Like every car they have AC, they have a driver, you don’t have to share with others outside your party, and they take you directly to your stop, no stoping at other locations

I was curious and did price out a stretch limousine that seats up to 8 and that was 300 each way.

Uber XL will average $50-$65 for exactly the same.
