New theme park or updating the current ones?

IMO I think Animal Kingdom's name should Change to Disney Adventure Kingdom..With Pandora coming and not reflecting on Animals it seems like they are trying to make it more of an Adventure..That way you can also do a really decent Indy ride and for everyone who has mentioned it a Mystic Manor based attraction..

All indications are that Avatar will have a strong focus on animals, just not real ones.

Disney World is big enough already. I guess some people take two-week long vacations there, but I only have enough time to do the four parks as it is. Also, as you said, Epcot needs massive improvements. Although, I have been thinking with all the attractions being shoehorned where they don't really belong (Monsters in Tomorrowland, Frozen in WS, arguably Avatar at AK), maybe if they built a new park they could find more appropriate places for these to fit.

WDW actually has the appropriate places to fit Monsters Inc Laughing Floor, and Frozen right now, but Disney decided not to put them in the appropriate places.

DHS has the room to fit in Monsters Inc. Laughing Floor matter of fact. DHS actually is a perfect spot for a Frozen.

The real problem with attractions being shoehorned where they don't belong is caused by Bob Iger and people below him thinks almost every new attraction needs to be an IP from a movie, Cartoon, or a show.

WDW doesn't need another park based on I don't see more tourists adding days to their trip if WDW gets a 5th gate.

WDW really to improve Epcot and DHS. DHS needs more than Star Wars Land. Star Wars Land isn't be built where The Studio Backlot Tour is and that is why DHS needs more than Star Wars Land. Studio Backlot Tour really doesn't make any sense in terms of DHS having one since DHS hasn't had a working studio for a long. The Studio Backlot Tour problem is something that can't go back to the way it was for multiple reasons.

While I'd absolutely love a well done fifth gate and used to be a big supporter of one, the current state of the three secondary gates shows me that more than anything new rides and attractions and updates need to happen there first before WDW can even consider a fifth gate. I'm sorry, but 6-7 rides do not justify paying for a full day park. If they each had about 15 or so I'd feel much better.

I will jump on the bandwagon of improving the current parks. I think all you have to do is look to Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios. By adding Harry Potter to both of those parks, and doing it in such a way that is completely immersive and mind blowing, completely revitalized IOA and I'm sure Diagon Alley will have the same effect on US. The point is, you don't need a new theme park to jump your numbers. If Disney would devote the same time and resources to a Star Wars themed area, I think that would be fantastic.

DAK may have been rushed, but it is nothing like Islands of Adventure. IOA is more like Universal's version of a Magic Kingdom park - themed lands that aren't thematically connected. DAK has a unified theme.

And we all know what that theme is......trees.....lots and lots of trees.

Improve the parks they have should come long before adding a fifth gate.

AK is getting a lot of attention with nighttime entertainment, the enhancement of Harambe and Pandora coming.
DHS is in great need for at least three more attractions and a couple restaurants. While I would prefer a SW land with two or three more SW attractions I believe the general public would appreciate another SW attraction or two with a little something else too. Change out VotLM, maybe BatB shows with some more current IP such as Frozen.
EC need so much more in Future World, replace EO, upgrade Figment (or preferred to revert to original), add capacity to Soarin', replace Ellen (PLEASE!!!) with something relevant and add a couple new attractions to round out the park. I would love to see anther country or two in the World Showcase but cannot eat at them all as it is (and that is with two week vacations) so I would expect it would just compound traffic congestion that already happens in some areas.

And, the water parks need a little attention too. They should each have a new attraction added at least once every five years. Add in a swirling bowl in Blizzard Beach and maybe a surfing area in Typhoon Lagoon or something, just add something to make people go there.

Disney Quest needs some updating in a BAD way, the 80's are long over. They could completely reskin the facade to create a giant Flynn's arcade in the front where the gift shop is with just a few games then use elevators to access themed floors with TRON, Game Central Station etc. for areas. I think it would greatly enhance the experience overall.

I definitely agree that Disney needs to focus on what they already have. There's got to be away to add some "new" magic to what's already in existance before they go and create another "just beacuse" park. Focus on building up HS and perfecting the work already in progress at AK before you even think about opening another park.

What's funny is, on here, it's almost a unanimous "fix/expand what they have." But if you were to ask most people of the general public, the vast majority would say "build a new park!"

Haha yes im sure that is true. They don't know the struggles in the other parks as well as we do.

Would they? The general public barely has enough time for what already exists.

I don't think so. Most, unless brain dead, would figure out that another park would mean a higher cost. Now if you asked if they would like a 5th gate without an increase in ticket prices, then they might just agree.

Well to test my theory, I just interviewed a bunch of grade schoolers.

"Would you rather Disney World fix its current issues and expand the existing parks to be complete experiences? Or build a NEW THEME PARK!!?"

"THEME PARK!! THEME PARK!!"

Now all you have to do is figure out how they are going to pay for it. That is exactly how statistics take a turn for the worst. All one needs is the proper grouping when the question is asked. :joyfull:
