I don't want to put words in his mouth, so correct me if I am wrong, but I believe @marni1971 said that they have looked into shortening the river very long-term with the success of Disneyland's. I'm on the same page, WDW's Frontierland would not lend itself with its layout to be the best place for it.

I think that is right. Wouldn't mind if they literally moved Frontierland back there. Possibly with a western styled opera house if they ever need another theater. But that is armchair Imagineering circa 2040.

Physically shorten ROA in Orlando? Not to my knowledge.

The rendering looks to me like a quick 3D model put together for the presentation. This may have been one of those last minute changes and they did not have time to develop artwork. I would suspect updated artwork at some point and the final product to contain more details, color variation, and landscaping.
I'm more eager took see future concept art of what the theater and building will look like inside.

Definitely agree with this. MSUSA would also lend itself to productions better, and not have to commit to the Main Street theme. While any show in Frontierland would have to be themed to some form of a western like Woody's Roundup. Just like the original theater, there can be any IP used and it will fit thematically as long as the actual theater is themed to the 1920's.

It also won't bring in huge crowds, help solve capacity problems, get the bypass permanently, and finally get a huge production Disney's flagship park deserves. A huge win, and to be honest, what I am personally most excited for. However, I still cannot wait to see how Tomorrowland turns out with TRON, so I expect that will still be the best thing. MK is getting so much love!!!
Maybe the 1910's too.

This may not be the sexiest announcement at D23, but it is by far the smartest decision they've made.

Added capacity to MK, new build, opening up a proper bypass with an actual centrepiece. It doesn't break theme, they are not seemingly cheapening out on any of it (indoors, lobby, A/C, proper DCA-esque broadway show) and it adds something to the MK that isn't a redundant offering with their current menu.

Perhaps we can finally have a sane, non-divisive decision!
I'm still eager to see what the inside will look like.

I'm really excited about this. My partner and I have been saying for years there should be a proper theater/show place in the MK. I'm very curious to see what show they put in there- I hope it's a new show, unique to WDW. However, if they put Frozen, it's not horrible- I actually liked it better than Aladdin (at DCA). If this is going in the Bypass, at least you can avoid the construction (if not using that walkway)!

We really need to have one of the great theater/movie houses of the day recreated for WDW. The one thing they don't have is a stage/screen area that can tackle grand performances. Imagine if Disney moves some of the premieres for their live action movies to the park? They could also start offering regular showings of first run Disney movies.

Movies? I can see it for premieres but movies on a regular basis? I sure hope not. Why would I spend the price of admission to spend hours watching a movie I could see at home? I want some sort of unique stage production.

This isn't one of the sexier announcements but it should have a strong impact if it is similar to the theater at DCA where we saw Aladin. That did a good job providing quality entertainment and eating up a large chunk of people periodically. Especially the people that didn't have fastpass but wanted specific seating as I saw people wasting their time waiting for quite a while. I hope they roll out a really high end, new show that becomes a classic at WDW.

It sounds like this will effectively constitute a fairly sizable expansion of Main Street USA, with the theater itself but also the more frequent (or permanent) opening of the bypass along with theming there.

My question is: Has Main Street USA ever before received a sizable expansion to its Guest areas? Or will this be the first?

And a less important question: I wonder if there will be a need to re-name the current Town Square Theater. After this new one is operational, when we think "theater on Main St", surely we'll be thinking of the new one.

I wondering if the bypass won't just become an area to house those waiting for the theater show and then once the theater is no longer running anymore shows for the day then you would see it open as needed.

I know they don't like having it open as we were directed to it on our last visit, no sign was up not to enter like usual and a few steps in were directed back out......girl said she was going to open it but changed mind as crowd wasn't big enough to demand it. A few people slid through but she turned us around.....no biggie and she put the sign back out but I got the message that they try to avoid using it.

Since they do use the utilidor below for most operational supprt it would be nice if it was completely reimagined to have shop access on both sides of Main Street so it could be open all the time.....they could some pretty cool looks on the backside and tie it all together.

The bypass isn't nearly big enough to house the queueing guests, if we're assuming this theater is similar to DCA's.
A theater needs roughly it's equivalent size to hold guests waiting for the following show.

Some people have said the theater will come with a lobby inside.
Let's see how Disney plans to accomodate this
