New Test Track?

I think some of us might have our nostalgia goggles on a tad to tight. The first ride literally had cardboard cut out trees, also people mentioned how it was poor show when the little mermaid had all of its stage lights, etc etc visible and how that was terrible the original ride literally looked like it was only halfway through being built almost everything is there and you are definitely aware that you are in a building with lights exits and everything that peole complain that they don't wanna see when on a dark ride. And you supposed to accept that simply cause you are in a test facility. The new theme from the que all the way to the actual ride are wayyy more appealing visually and manage to take the guest away into a different world something the first didn't accomplish for me at all. The story is simple you are now putting your own simcars through each individual test, every time I have ridden this ride this feature has worked and works the way it was intended to. To call this new version a failure is seriously the biggest use of hyperbole, I understand there is a sentimental connection to the previous ride and I think the imagineers may have failed to see that. But by no means is the newer version a failure or less than the one that came before it. Heck this ride even has hints to world of motion everywhere and more than any other attraction in future world at the moment bears the honor of actually being "Futuristic".

Everything I've seen online brings me to the opinion that this version is 100 times better then the pervious. Its actually futuristic compared to the original as you are testing the car of the future rather then just testing a car. Also as Sped2424 stated, there are some many hits and easter eggs to World Of Motion that if you are an old school Epcot fan, you have to like this one more.

No, when I say it fails, I mean it literally fails. Just one month ago, half the riders in my car could not load their simcars, as the modules you touch the card against at the loading bay weren't functioning correctly.
Second, as mentioned in the other thread I posted "Test Track 2.Suck", the wind tunnel effects were not working when I went through it, and instead of seeing the illusion, I was treated to Windows Task Manager in the reflection.

To put it bluntly: The new Test Track sucks because Disney half-assed it.

There is nothing really different about the actual ride itself, except they turned the lights off and have neon Tron decorations. For instance, the antilock brakes test where you skid out and regain control? It's still there. Now they just have a big screen showing a liquid-neon rainstorm.
The tree-top hills and trucker that you nearly crash into are still there, now only done up like Tron.

Most damning of all is the "design your own car" feature that was so hyped during the conversion has absolutely no bearing on the ride itself. Every now and then you will drive past a screen that shows the top four cars designed by the people in your ride vehicle and how they performed in the simulated test. That is the extent of designing your own car, until the post show area when you can use your designed car on simulated racetracks and video games.

Ultimately, Test Track 2.0 is a failure. You aren't learning anything about cars or about the design process (especially since the majority of the designs I witnessed in the post show were ungainly stupid-looking things. Like the Bat-Tumbler crossed with a drag racer, but given 10' tall wheels for kicks)....it's just a giant 3D Chevy commercial, and is quite possibly an even worse revamp than Journey Into Imagination.

I am gonna go ahead and agree that the design your own car bit is a gimmick and not worth even trying. Has no effect on the ride itself, and seeing your car in comparison to others on the screen doesn't even feel competitive. It's boring, and you can tell the cast members hate it because if anything, it just slows up the line. So yes. That part is a big fail.

Apart from that though. I like the new Test Track.

I liked it fine, it doesn't wow me, but neither did the original if I'm being honest. I did miss the hot/cold tests though. I would do 2.0 again. I didn't like how when designing your car we had a timer that we didn't realize was going to run out so quickly, we didn't get to finish designing any details. 4 min. is not really enough.

Thanks for all of the opinions!
I wanted to see what changed, because it seemed neat. (YES, they got rid of the cardboard trees!)
I'm excited to ride it now, it seems very cool.:)

I have been on everestt with the windows scene, doesn't mean the ride is a failure (putting the yeti aside) Same thing with the sim cars both time I have ridden it the effect was working and I saw my car on display at each station. I have been on pirates where we waited in line and suddenly get escorted out the door because the ride shut down. Does that make pirates a failure? Or if a few scenes are working the way they should do we condemn the entire ride as a flop?

Its funny that you mentioned that because I always say if you wanna go cheap on the theming go with factory/facility, military, or run down city themes. Why? Factories don't theme themselves neither do test facilities, The Military puts as little effort into building anything that doesn't create a battlefield advantage so its bare bones buildings tents and temporary structures, and backstreet cities don't require much cleaning or maintenance.

There was nothing futuristic about the original test track in my opinion, and I remember that It just looked like it needed a bit more in there.

Oh, it's okay. :p
And yes I said poo.

Throw an H on the end of it and you're all clear.

Anyway, I guess the ultimate reason I dislike TT2 is because I'm a guy who actually counts down the miles to the next oil change. I love being covered in oil and road grime

And just for kicks I will watch IIHS crash testing with classical music in the background.

Try it. It's awesome. Mute the video and just let the music take you away.

Anyway...I liked it. And while it needed an update, the neon lights and "Chevy Dealership" just doesn't make me feel the same way the old version used to.

And by the way, the YouTube videos of the new ride are actually better than the ride itself, as they tend to not pick up on the ambient light given off by the projections. You know the big "rain" screen representing adverse weather? In the ride itself you can see the walls behind the screens from the glow that they emit.

:P

Haha that is kinda cool.

Anyways,It's true I will never know what its like to be part of the grease monkey world (being a bit of a girly girl I hate gooy stuff on me). However, I am a huge fan of sci fi and futurism so this new setup won me over really easily. Chevy dealership? I guess you never saw world of motion, where this existed previously. In fact as a kid I thought it was the funnest thing in the world being able to climb into the cars and pretend I'm driving. I'd easily spend an hour there in the corvette. Because of that I kept telling my mom I wanted one. I remember the seat on the pickup truck couldn't stay upright though :P lol! Either way I had a blast there, and I remembered the product so I guess it's a wise move on their behalf.
