LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Walt Disney World guests seeking to pamper themselves or preserve cherished memories have new destinations to explore in Downtown Disney Marketplace at Walt Disney World Resort:

Disney's Wonderful World of Memories offers a new collection of Walt Disney World-branded scrapbook supplies, including albums, pre-packaged kits, adhesive tape pens, glue sticks, scissors, and a wide assortment of colorful Disney stickers. Also available are Disney books, stationery, pens and postcards, plus several stations where guests can create scrapbook pages and postcards. Now open, Disney’s Wonderful World of Memories is located next to Art of Disney and replaces the 2R’s Reading and Riting shop.

Basin, scheduled to open in mid-January, will feature natural bath and skin care products in a beautifully rustic setting across from World of Disney. The shop’s interior will evoke the feel of a 19th century market where guests can browse among pine bins and metal tubs filled with fragrant soaps and lotions or watch soap cut by the pound from all-natural blocks. Basin replaces the Generation BeneFITS shop.

That sounds interesting, but the "2R’s Reading and Riting" shop is my favorite store? Where will we get our books?

Heh; I can't wait to see the new store, however. It'll be perfect for scrapbooking!

When I was there in August the whole store was a scrapbooking store...but they still had books. So I think it will still be a book store, but with the Scrapbook idea being the main focus (attract more guests than books).

Now, Disney's making money off the previously free memories of a WDW excursion!!!

Memories can still be free...

But much funner with these new Disney scrapbooking supplies!!

Grizzly, it sounds to me like you can still get the 2 R's stuff there....they're just expanding it to include scrapbooking stuff.

Sounds like a good store. Last time we were at DTD we spent a lot of time trying to get the golf ball on the tee inside the snow globe. Have you seen these evil toys they sell them at the World of Disney store. By the way I never did get one and my wife did(Oh the shame) sorry for the drift

Will DTD ever expand and cover more ground so that new shops can be located instead of closing some of the older ones - or is it Disney policy to close old favourites ??

I was wondering the same thing. I know of companies that have a store at DTD CA, and was told there were no openings for another store in DTD FL.

Is there any room for expansion?
Thanks!

There is always room for expansion at Walt Disney World:) It has to do with money. How much money will guests spend (a LOT, but there will always be an invisible ceiling for everyone). They have guys who have college degrees in this stuff...you know, how much will guests spend and is it cost-effective to build a new store or replace one? With Once Upon a Toy, they apparently felt it would be cost-effective to build a new store, whereas these two are replacements. If they had 40 stores at Downtown Disney or 42 stores there, would guests continue to spend more? I'm not personally infinitely rich, so I'd say no...the area is already massive.... As for Basin, it is already at the Downtown Disney District in California, so it must have just done well there so Disney decided it needed to go to Disney World to make more money:) Always money. As for Wonderful World of Memories--sounds more like a refurbishment of 2Rs than a replacement.... I wouldn't worry about getting souvenirs. Disney always makes sure they are plenty of gift shops:) I mean...when was the last time they built a ride w/o making sure it had an adjacent gift shop?

Well, I checked out the Toy store this weekend and LOVED it! My wife had to drag me away. We also went in the Memories store. If you are in to that type of thing then I think you'd like it. There were some books there still but not like there used to be.

I tried that golf ball toy. That thing really IS evil!!!!!

Scrapbooking Store

Anybody have pictures of the inside of the scrapbooking store? Us scrapbookers out there are thrilled about this, but I for one am wondering if it's new stuff, you can't find anywhere else, or supplies that are already out there.
Any more info would be great!

I don't know if it is new or not but it is all Disney branded. My wife picked up some stickers she can put in her albums. Sorry, she was more entertained with the store than I was.
