News New security measures

To say that Disney has "security policies that still rival that of most of our major cities" is not saying much. Disney is not nearly as big, nor does it have as diverse and widespread an infrastructure of any of the major cities. So it is much easier for Disney to be safer.

The die hards defend Disney to the grave. The fact that Disney has just chosen to INCREASE their security measures means that they had identified weaknesses in their security. I said they were there, and others on these boards aggressively attacked me. Now I am vindicated.
Bigger song and dance is not at all related to actual stronger security.

If scanners are installed, we'll know it. In the meantime, I'm glad for any stepped up security measures. What always perplexed me, though, was having the bag check but no pat downs (as done at NFL games, not TSA groping just to clarify).

I have heard nothing credible about this at all (and for those who know my post history can testify that I may know a thing or two about upcoming procedure changes at the parks ;) ).

I do know that security was looked at regarding possible attacks on property (in fact there was a false bomb scare in the utilidoors about 2 weeks ago I bet very few of you knew about), and as of yet...nothing has been slated to change. I can say this, they are more concerned over "vigilante" guests sneaking weapons into the parks "just in case" than they are of a terrorist group.

Some of you have already put it into perspective...the resort is HUGE. It would be impossible to monitor it all. Even now the bag checks are more of a formality "peace of mind" action, as its been shown they don't really work well. They are aware of that. They are also aware that if someone wants to attack them badly enough, they will. Its not a matter of being cheap, its a matter of maintaining a good balance of guest experience and showing they are "trying".

This is actually a really good article. At first I thought it was piling on more blame on the characters, but later in the article it goes on to make a great defense for most of perceived offenses. The Tigger claim was a scam to get money from Disney. Then comes the really interesting part about false memories and the reason there are so many people that come out to social media after an allegation like this is made. Good read.

If there are scanners, it will likely be the same routine when entering a sports stadium. You put your bag on a table and loose belongings in a bin and security waves you through the metal detector. Stadiums use the wands after all this too. I went through some tight security at the World Series in New York, which was expected. I also went through tighter security at a small rock show in Philly this past weekend than I have ever experienced. Security used to just check your bag for booze, drugs, etc but they check your bags for weapons and use the wands on everyone. This was not Madison Square Garden, this is a venue with a max capacity of 800 people. So eerie how the presence of security in our day-to-day lives have changed since 9/11. Whatever Disney implements, just gotta take a deep breath and let security do their jobs. Unfortunately, the Happiest Place on Earth is not impervious to hate.

i.e. so now guests will have to deal with TSA style security theater, Come on Disney give the TSA their bureaucratic wet dream and allow them to do security screening at Disney venues.

Hmmmm....I seem to remember tons of you folks scathing me a few weeks back when I dared mention how Disney does not have strong enough safety measures. Most of you SWORE that Disney was fine and they had everything under control.
Many of you even complained that they would never do it because it would slow down the entry process.

And now......Disney is taking extra precautions. How about that?

Two words 'security theater' because of the embarassing gun incident.

And the biggest soft target at WDW.

Yes but at 'soft' targets a 'soft' security model works best and to the horror of the anti-gunners that also includes properly trained civilians with weapons. What you don't want is some yahoo with a firearm blazing away with no training or fire discipline.

Unfortunately in many instances cops are not properly trained with firearms which is why you hear stories about hundreds of rounds fired yet only bystanders are hit. Our local gun club used to allow police to train at no charge, We were forced to stop by too many holes in the floors walls and ceilings caused by wannabe Wyatt Earp's in blue uniforms. And yes we had the video so we knew exactly who committed the negligent discharges
