New rules for those who like to book room only before packages released - you can't anymore!

The vast majority of people do not book over a year ahead.

EDIT: Or did you mean international guests in particular?
Yes, the comment about booking over a year ahead was about international guests.

From Christmas on they encourage people to book for the following summer, with a deposit only.
I don't believe that you will see any change to international bookings, booked via a UK operator, they have always had different offers and rules.
For packages - possibly. Not convinced though.
For room-only my guess is it’ll change.
Those who book room only often book via the US site to lock their room in and then look for discounts.
It will have an impact and Disney could lose out to the DS resorts if they accept earlier bookings.

You (anyone) can't book past Dec 2023. And won't be able to book anything in 2024 until packages come out in June 2023. So if you are looking to go in Jan/Feb, that's about 6/7 months out.
Where are we getting “June” from “Spring?”

I'm trying to understand the reason for this change.

They don't like people booking room only, then changing to packages when those are released - too much call times? Do they lose money this way?
Are the rates cheaper when you book that far in advance because next year's rates aren't out yet?

Someone probably figured out a percentage of money they were giving away by grandfathering rates and figured this was another few cheap dollars. No ressies means less obligations to work around too.

Each spring, or June as the case may be, there's going to be a massive drop of reservation availability. Mom is going to be up all night trying to get on the drop the second it opens. Phone lines are jammed. People are watching the atomic clocks to hit the button at just the right time.

Sound familiar? Disney seems to love these kind of situations. They just created another.

P.S. I'd like to make a side note that I didn't use the word 'should' anywhere in the above post. I'm not asking Disney to change anything, I'm just pointing out what I think is an interesting syndrome.
