New Restaurant for Morocco?

I hope they don't remove too much of the water feature for the restaurant. That water feature is a pretty good example of how you have to deal with limited water in a desert environment and how you can make the most of it.

I think all of that is going away sadly and it was such a nice area, pave paradise and put up a parking lot, or in this case another building to clutter with traffic congestion.

If this means they'll tear up and dismantle the gorgeous waterwheel and irrigation system, I'll be furious.

Better start being furious because the waterwheel is going away, but there still is one inside Germany.

I am here to calm everyone's nerves and to anounce that the water wheel is not going away when the new restaurant gets built! I work in the estimating department for a large general contractor located in the Central/South Florida area and we were invited by Disney to bid on the construction of the new restaurant back in January. I worked with the drawings for about 2-3 weeks during the bidding process so I know every inch of them. The water wheel is shown on the construction documents as "Existing water wheel to remain". It gets incorporated into the concept of the new restaurant. Now the trellis/stage area does get demolished, as that is right where the new restaurant is being located, but the actual water wheel does remain in place. Also, all of the wooden chutes that carry the water around will be gone as well. Basically, when you walk through the main doors into the new restaurant you step into a lobby first. When you walk through the lobby there is a very nice main bar with full floor to ceiling glass located behind the bar at the back wall facing the lagoon. The bar/windows are located right in front of the water wheel, so as you look out the windows behind the bar you will still see the water wheel. I know it's not quite the same, and it will be really hard to see if you are just walking down the path through Morocco, but it will still be there.

Thanks for sharing that. Do you think it will be a nice addition blended in well? I was never really that impressed with the big block of a restuarant added in front of Mexico.

It really is a beautiful building, themed identically to the rest of Morocco obviously. It's about 5,000 sf and has an outdoor covered area for henna tatoo's and a walk-up QS juice bar on one side. There is a large indoor dining area and also a large outdoor covered dining area as well. I would post an elevation from the drawings, but we had to sign non-disclosure agreements saying that we cannot share any of the information contained in the drawings. The official name on the front sheet of the construction documents is "Morocco Tapaz Restaurant at Epcot". We were not awarded the job however, one of the other GC's that bid on it got it. Not sure when it is breaking ground though.

I am both comforted and intrigued. Thank you!

If this is true the 'saving the water wheel' doesn't change that everything else about this is an EPIC FAIL.

Adding more seaside clutter to the lagoon. FAIL.

Removing the water chutes (what makes this water wheel unique). FAIL.

Adding a restaurant that is supposed to represent a Muslim country featuring a bar. FAIL.

And the fact that this will likely kill Marrakesh, which is the last great theme park restaurant on property, with great atmosphere, great entertainment, and really good food, that  you can actually eat as a walk-in. FAIL FAIL FAIL FAIL FAIL.

But I'm sure the rotisserie half chickens, 'morrocan' burgers (w/ Cockerell Fries of course) will make up for it...

They are adding a quite a bit of signage now. The basic layout will be if you are facing the restaurant from the Morocco pavilion. On your right hand side there will be a juice bar on the corner, then next to it will be the Henna artist, then Souk-Al-Magreb selling Moroccan souvenirs, then the entrance to the restaurant, and on the left hand corner will be covered outdoor dining. When you enter the restaurant, the bar will be directly ahead with a viewing window cut out behind the bar so you can see the lagoon and the water wheel turning. Then on the back right hand side will be the dining area with large viewing windows looking out on the lagoon similar to Mexico's Cantina.

Is the juice bar the Oasis Slushies stand or is it a new location?

Morocco' pavilion and restaurant are both my favorites in the World Showcase.

But I am boycotting the new Mexico restaurant and the Moroccan one, too, because they're ruining the World Showcase. I won't step foot into either one.

That will show Disney. Now they'll get it. ;)
