Any news on the storyline for this?
From a new press release which placed the opening date at 7/21/05:

RAGING SPIRITS

URAYASU, CHIBA - "Raging Spirits", a new roller coaster attraction in "Tokyo DisneySea Park", will begin operation on July 21, 2005 in the themed port of "Lost River Delta". The attraction will take guests on a thrilling, high-speed ride through the ruins of an ancient ceremonial site.

When restoration work began on two giant statues unearthed recently in "Lost River Delta", the unfortunate consequence was the awakening of the mysterious spirits that reside in the ominous idols. Now, the multi-headed snake statue that seems to be the symbol of the God of Water spews water everywhere, while the stone statue of the God of Fire appears surrounded by shimmering flames.

Guests riding the attraction will board hopper cars that are propelled along tracks around the archeological excavation site, passing by the vengeful statues and through bursts of water and flame before experiencing a 360-degree loop followed by a hair-raising plunge into a steam-filled cenote (sinkhole).

"Raging Spirits" will offer guests an unforgettable journey through a mysterious and exciting world. The attraction will serve to further enhance the atmosphere of "Lost River Delta" and add even more adventure to "Tokyo DisneySea".

Attraction Information:

Type of Attraction: Roller Coaster
Ride Duration: Approximately 2.5 minutes
Top Speed: Approximately 60 km/h (37.2 mph)
Total Track Length: Approximately 600m (0.37 mi)
Hopper Car Capacity: 12 people
Total Capital Invested: ¥8 billion (US$77.6 million - 1/25/05 rate)

Plus some new concept art

As always, thanks Lee.

This is looking more and more like Temple of Peril. Lets hope DLP go ahead with the rumoured refurb after they see this!

An Olympic runner could run 600m in about one minute - on flat ground of course. This coaster does it in 2.5 minutes. 600m doesn't sound very long. Does anyone have stats on other coaster lengths, like RnRC or Space?

RnR is just over 1000meters.

The funny thing about this ride is that listening to TDLR regulars (who have seen it being tested) are not that impressed with it.
They are calling it a D-Ticket at best. And exactly like DLP's Indy but with special effects.
Man those TDL guys are spoiled (and lucky :lookaroun )

I've been wondering from the beginning if the track layout was like DLP's Indy. If so, I'm baffled as to why anyone would want to recreate it as I feel it's one of the weakest coaster layouts I've ever ridden - forwards or backwards. I guess there just aren't that many good ideas around. I'll reserve judgement until I ride it, but if the track layout is the same I'm not hopeful.

I too would hope RS is a bit more varied in its layout . I doubt it has the box layout of DLP`s Indy due to the indoor elements. Indy was off the shelf, and despite the theming it shows... its almost ready to pack up and move on to the next town.

Perish the thought of The Oriental Land Company going cheap!

:D we'd be spoiled to if we had Pooh's Hunny Hunt for our dark rides and every new park heading our was as complete and hi-tech as TDS...The Japanese so have everything...

So true. Let's hope they appriciate it.
Some of these TDLR guys just seem to take it all for granted.
Things I've overheard:
"Raging Spirits is a D Ride at best"
"Sinbad is the worst dark ride. It's too long"
"Tomorrowland needs a refurbishment" (I'll give them that one)
"The flame that shoots out the top of Mt. Prometheus used to be higher"
"Aquatopia is useless" (I'll give them that one too)
"Stormrider is the worst ride" (debateable)
Arguably the best themepark in the world and they still find things to complain about.
We should have such problems.

If these people hate Stormrider then my respect for their opinions takes a major nosedive.
I thought Stormrider was good. Not bad. Not great. Just good.
Keeping in mind I do not understand Japanese which might have taken away from it.
But I still think it might make a nice addition to Epcot.
