Are you sure these aren't the 2007 dollars?

I thought they had done away with the dollars in favor of the customizable gift cards? Where did you get them?

We get Disney Dollars every trip including trips in June 2011 and August 2011. They still have them. It is just that they have not printed anything new since the 2009 series. You may get them at any Disney Resort. Many times however, they don't have much so I always ask them to check the safe. It takes almost 15-20 minutes each time I go to get them though.

This is great news, saw it on MousePlanet too. I was concerned that the Disney Dollars would be going away so I have hoarding about $500 worth myself.

If someone who is going to the World soon would PM me-- I would like to send $ and have Disney Dollars sent to me-- they are GREAT for stocking stuffers since we go in Jan!

Pirates of the Caribbean Disney Dollars available now

To celebrate the “Pirates of the Caribbean” film franchise, the fourth in a series of Disney Dollars has been released. The new bill is available in a $1 denomination only and features the iconic skull and ship highlighted in the motion pictures.

A limited supply of Disney Dollars is available at both the Disneyland and Walt Disney World resorts and will be sold in select locations.

  • Walt Disney World sites include Guest Relations location in the theme parks and the Downtown Disney Area, and concierge and front desks in resorts. Disney Dollars purchased at the Walt Disney World Resort with a credit card are limited to $50 a day.
  • Disneyland Park locations include City Hall, Star Trader, Gag Factory and vacation planning booths.
  • Disney California Adventure locations include Guest Relations and vacation planning booths.
  • World of Disney at the Downtown Disney District within the Disneyland Resort
  • Disneyland Resort hotel locations include Mickey in Paradise and Fantasia.
Disney Dollars, the official currency of the Walt Disney World Resort, the Disneyland® Resort and the Disney Stores in the United States and Puerto Rico, can be purchased or exchanged for their equal value in U.S. currency.

It seems they have overhauled the Disney Dollar "program" somewhat; when I bought Disney Dollars at the Pop concierge in Jan. 2011, they told me it was only cash exchange. It could've been bad info back then, but this might be a meaningful change.

I think Disney has realized that if they put out a new design every year in small quantities (the new serial #'s are shorter than the old ones), then most of the new Disney Dollars will be "collected" and never spent. It's almost like printing their own money!

Sorry about the joke. I had to say it.

Honestly they could "sell" them but not allow them for use. The hold up has been that there's an issue with counterfeiting and as such they use security measures on par with the US Government.

I'd also bet that's why they only makes $1's now... much less tempting to counterfeit a one dollar bill and it reinforces the idea that this is a novelty and not a way to pay for your $300 Emporium shopping spree.
