I think it’s pretty simple:

For 20 years people believed reservations were due to “crowding”…which would be an instinctive response.

Sometimes - crappy dining plan era - that was true…

But before and after that is not the reason at all. There’s hardly anyone at these places…it’s just to cut costs/staffing

When old buggers like myself talk about how things have “declined”…this is the kinda thing that surfaces.

I know this is just one small problem but it doesn’t help that gone are the days you could actually resort hop with a car and spend time at the resorts. I’ve been waiting to try this restaurant but can never get through the guard shack to try it. We don’t stay at a Disney resort when in town anymore and I’m not willing to jump through hoops to get into the resorts these days. Disney did it to themselves by cutting off access to people who genuinely want to visit the resorts instead of pay for parking at a theme park.

The rules were changed recently to allow non-resort guests to park at the Polynesian after 2 pm:

Jump through hoops? You mean like take an uber? Or go to the TTC?

You know Plan Disney is not an official source, and is renowned for incorrect advice? Ultimately it would be up to the CM at the entry shack.

But the Poly is an easy walk from the TTC.

The outside is always full when I go. It's the inside I think that is struggling.

From the website: "planDisney is the official source for Disney vacation planning advice." Their URL is an official Disney URL. That doesn't mean everything they say is correct, but I don't think one should just dismiss all their answers out of hand.

Regardless, they're not the only ones saying it:

ETA: I will add that this change was implemented several months ago (I shouldn't have said "recently" in my first post). Whether the policy has been changed again since then I don't know.

Certainly not suggesting we discount all their answers, but I would never recommend people accept their replies as set in stone.

In any case if you have an ADR you have always been able to park at a resort. This “new policy” is simply adding Trader Joe’s to the mix, subject to availability.

A Cast Member said they could run into a situation where they might not be able to welcome all non-hotel drivers. This will all be based on availability.

I can see this being revised if they get a lot of MK party guests parking at the Poly. And then returning guests staying at the Poly finding no spaces.

You would have to be a moron to even in sarcasm saying ordering a uber to go someplace is jumping through hoops
You have to PAY for it.

Why is this not clicking…even for you?

What the poster you (without thinking…which is standard) responded to was saying was driving his car -
Rental or owned - to visit Hotels to give Disney their money. You are suggesting paid entry to a hotel lobby isn’t a “hoop”?

You can't make ADRs for Waililu Bar & Grill or Tambu Lounge either, so the new policy covers more than just Trader Sam's.

A Cast Member said they could run into a situation where they might not be able to welcome all non-hotel drivers. This will all be based on availability.
The planDisney post addressed this anyway: "Keep in mind, though, that parking is subject to availability and hotel Guests will always have priority, so on especially busy days, you may be directed elsewhere."

The biggest myth ever is there “isn’t enough parking”…except at contemporary (obvious reasons) and beach club before they put the kabosh on open “beaches and cream”

It’s just a cash grab policy…but zero sum
It sure how many people even care now as attendance falls due to egregious prices

Install (or program an existing) gate. Swipe your room key or credit card. When you leave Swipe the same credit card. Non resort guests who exceed the complimentary 3 hour parking will be charged $100.

OR use the same credit card to make purchases drinks and food. Customers who don't meet minimums pay for parking
