Tiki Man is saying that Tambu Lounge has changed their walk up policy but didn't go into details... Does anyone know what's going on here?
Pictures I have seen online show signage at the entrance saying "please wait to be seated" or something to that effect.

One of the blog sites had an article on it, but I can't find right now.

The original Disney hotels did not 'have themes'. The Polynesian Village Resort had a theme, the Contemporary did not have a theme, it was just the mid-century modern hotel, while we were in the Mid-Century. It was the epitome of Brutalist architecture, when Brutalist architecture was the rage. The next hotel was the Disney Golf Resort. Again, a themeless Mid-Century lowrise. This was followed with more brutalist architecture at Hotel Plaza.
They did not try themed resorts again until Caribbean Beach Resort and Grand Floridian Beach Resort.

1. Does that mean you can't saddle up to the bar? Or is that just for the couple of tables next to the bar?
2. Tiki Man's website is back? URL?

It's nearly impossible to get a table there, and still difficult to get a bar stool even when waiting around for 30 minutes or more. I welcome any change to make it so people sitting there are actually ordering food or drinks rather than just taking up space. The biggest improvement here would just be that whoever waited longest gets the next spot, rather than who is fastest or closest to a chair.

You are correct. You can walk up to the outside bar and get a drink from the bartender but you have to wait to be seated outside.

That seems to be what this is addressing. It's to limit people sitting at the bar or tables while waiting for their meal at Ohana.

My first visit to this thread in a while, and I just saw the pictures. This is so ugly. There's nothing they could put on the exterior of this tower that is going to make it blend in with the Poly's aesthetic. It's far too dense, where the old Poly buildings exude the feeling of beachside bungalows. It's like a 9x13 cookie cake versus a plate of cookies.

The existing buildings are motels that we forgive far too easily because they’re old. Poly is only fancy because Disney says so. I’m hopeful for a DVC that raises the resort’s facilities up to an adequate level. Add a freakin gym for one. The Hampton Inn has its own gym. By the time I arrive at the Grand’s gym, I already need a hydration stick.

Just love how the Polynewbox resort blends in with the old poly plus what a great view you will have staying at the original poly.. Another great move by Disney ---------NOT!!!!!!!!!!!
Well looking right at it from the 3rd floor center lagoon view room in BPK a few weeks ago, it is going to look just fine when completed day or night with its neighboring hotels. It will be even better up close with another place to stop between the GF and Polynesian walking paths.

Being in construction, I hate looking at work being done while on vacation but it even looked good while in its concrete stage from the balcony.

I know this message board hates anything new but I for one will be enjoying the site-lines!

I've never been a fan of the Polynesian, other than some of the main building (although it was much better with the original lobby). This DVC doesn't improve that -- if anything it makes it worse -- but since I was never planning to stay there anyways it doesn't really matter.

My only real concern is that it seems like it'll make the area look worse from the lake etc. and it eliminates that nice peaceful walk between the GF and the Polynesian, but both of those are very minor things in the grand scheme (at least for me).

Pretty sure the Polynesian had a health club in the early years - along with a beauty salon and the kids club and an arcade (not to mention an additional restaurant and the luau).

The tower is nearly complete in spite of appearances. They have 300000 sqft of duct tape with a bamboo print on it. Once they've spent a week or so applying that it'll be fully themed. Seamless. Romancing the Stone roleplay weekends start Oct 1!

I love the renderings of the new tower, it’s just in the wrong place.

It looks like they took the blueprints from one of the Reflections buildings, made a couple tiny adjustments, and just plopped it down next to Polynesian, it’s not the worst fit but it could be a lot better, long story short it looks like it was designed for a different location.

Again, I don’t know what the complaining is about. The tower fits in just fine and people are getting another deluxe resort to eat, drink and sleep. It will also have very nice amenities. For those who are manufacturing outrage from their mom’s basement it is currently the grey tower above the wedding pavilion or if you do not know where that is, to the extreme right. Yeah it’s a real eyesore! I can’t even imagine how it will look from MK which is twice as far as the picture taken from the GF BPK balcony. It will even be more horrific to the two Polynesian row houses that actually face towards the new tower. My god the horror.
