Actually me too. I loved that style... fresh and colorful in it's time... A lot of the Graves architecture still looks great. They keep trying to normalize the interiors at the Swan and Dolphin instead of leaning into the original designs... They should be treated like the art that they are... The contemporary convention addition was not my favorite though...Hard to tack Michael Graves onto an existing and equally impressive piece of architecture...
I concur! Not Disney related, but I remember visiting my aunt and uncle in San Diego in '92 for the All Star Game. They took me to Horton Plaza among other places to share this "new" architecture that was revitalizing downtown. It is now demolished. I guess I'm getting old.

I loved Horton Plaza back in the 90s! Colorful, modern and beautiful...I was back there years later and all the WOW is kind of gone and replaced with generic posters and advertisements for "Simon" malls...and the cool shops and restaurants are gone....

The final version of Swam and Dolphin we see today is actually the toned down version of what Michael Graves originally pitched.
I would love to see the original pitch! The current version of the Swan and Dolphin are very toned down from their original iteration back when they opened...

We spent the summer of '97 in San Diego at Princess Island (now Paradise Point). The X-Games were happening across the water on Mission Bay, and we spent tons of time exploring Horton Plaza. It was bright, fun funky... prototypical 90's retail optimism.

I miss Downtown Disney.

Wow, that final wing of the tower is very close to the older building
It’s intended to run perpendicular to Aotearoa so that it creates a new courtyard between the tower, Aotearoa, Fiji, and Tuvalu surrounding the pool. It’s also one of the shorter sections and is already at max height minus the roof cap. They just have to add two floors to the section standing at four currently and the entirety of the building is basically there. Hope that means some finishing can start soonish.

NOW it looks Polynesian! lol
I know it has a ways to go... but with that structure, it is never going to blend into the fabric of the resort... unless they completely rethink what they are doing....and we know that will not happen...
