I saw a few pictures on the walls...but nothing felt like it was from the European Riviera...It felt pretty unthemed to me...espcially the lobby and public areas...The rooftop Restaurant is just modern...
so, no I don't get that they were trying to do theme at all... just nice hotel...
What were the French and Italian things you saw?
Honestly if it weren't for the music playing, the signage in French (Shop, cafe) pool name, food, portraits and film posters in their French Italian versions, then you wouldn't think it's French or Italian or European at all. They can easily change it to British just by changing the signage, portraits and music. 🎨 🖌

Not sure how this fell back into the Riviera debate, but, you can't say it could be anything to you. You said everything there is Italian and French. I don't think it's out of line to ask that you provide examples of some of the things that are indeed Italian and French.
Disney doesn't state which part of the regions The Riviera is built after. So no I can't answer that region. The European riviera atmosphere what it brings can be different to everybody.

I'm not asking Disney, that's a YOU quote. YOU said "Everything there is Italian and French." I get Disney said "Eh, it's Europe. Yes, we called in Riviera, but lets just say it represents the entire continent, so you can choose what you think it represents" but you specifically called it French and Italian. So the question was valid as to what is French or Italian about it. Now, if you are backing off that statement, we can leave it here. But the original question was directed at you because you specifically called those two countries out.

Thank you for providing some perspective. I'm not seeing Cannes in Riviera. There's a hint of the Casino Negresco from Nice. I would have liked to see a waterside pathway that was reminiscent of the Promenade des Anglais with some of the vibrant night scene you would find there. I don't see any Italian influences that reflect Cinque Terre or Portofino.

But what disappointed us the most was the view of Caribbean Beach's property from Riviera. This from a company that once took great care to conceal any views of the Contemporary from Main Street USA and painted show buildings in EPCOT the same shade of blue as the Florida sky so that they were less noticeable. And sadly it appears that the Polyday Inn will continue in the same vein as Riviera.
Aren't a number of the MK resorts visible from each other? I find the preferred view at Riviera quite nice most of the time. IMO I'd rather look at CBR than BLT

What's the difference that between another person saying unless or nothing is...(?)

For someone to say everything is Italian-French to them, meanwhile someone else on this thread say unless (USA) at The Riviera and meanwhile another poster says (nothing is Italian-French) at The Riviera.

The only thing that's considered different is that you have not shared how you see The Riviera to you which we all did and all have different views whether you like some or not......,

Photo updates from today.

Thoughts:

Thé paint is helping, and I think the additional dining amenities will be welcomed, however
I would have built it on the current parking lot with a breezeway connecting it to the GCH, this just makes it feel lopsided and that’s my biggest issue with it.

Also what’s this rumour I hear about a new luau…?

Building vertically here does allow a lot of people a nice view of the park, which is sort of a good thing. Many on here are looking to stay there.

I think my only real complaint is calling it "Polynesian", which it really isn't. Unless you count Singapore part of polynesia.

They should have called it the "Grand View Hotel" or something, because that is exactly what you're paying for.

Maybe they could offer the Polynesian faithful an olive branch and tear down the Bungalows to give us that stretch of beach back. Now that they can "sell views" down the beach a bit.

I do like the wood grain (or is it real wood?) they seem to be adding. Hopefully they do more with the awning at the top, to give it more decorative detail. If they can do something in the same vein as the roof of the GCH, that could work.

In the Parks
Yes
Looks not so nice from the monorail. I can see a new game of skill for hairbands on top of the wedding chapel starting up.

it is just sculpted stucco type finish on the concrete...definitely not real wood...
I know there is a ton more to do to finish the exterior of the building, and it will get better looking as it goes...But that said, looking across from BLT along the lake shore it is starting to look like a modern city...and there is no amount of decor they can put on that structure to make it harmonious with the rest of the resort...
