New phased Closing Nomenclature?

What amazes me is that anyone who would go there on Christmas day would ever go back....so with that type of reasoning you have to think that there is a segment of new visitors every year that are first time visitors for Christmas day. "Hey I have an idea.....lets go to MK for Christmas" Says the person with the worst idea ever! You wouldn't get me near the place even if you gave me an all expense paid trip. Complete butts to nutts....no thank you!

I posted this in the other thread that is going about the Christmas/New Year's crowds, but we did MK on Christmas morning, 2009. EMH was 7am and we were at the gate at 6:30am. Had an amazing morning as the park was close to empty until 9am. No kidding - almost everything was walk-on or less than 20 minute waits. We did the majority of attractions prior to departing at 11am. As we drove out of the parking lot, the signs were just being put up for the parking lots being closed.

On actual Christmas morning, the majority of families open presents before they head to the park, so 7am-10am or so is pretty good touring. Luckily, back in 2009, we convinced our 5 year old to wait for presents until after lunch and had an amazing Christmas morning in Magic Kingdom.

And, yes, we are planning to do it again. It was awesome.

Seems like you have figured out how to tour the MK on Christmas. Me? Never been on Christmas....yeah I know what your thinking....so how do I know? I don't have to go. I have seen the pictures. I guess with what you described there is a way. What I do know is that I was a TA for a few years and I sent a family there for Christmas week and the father called me two days into the trip begging me to book him a flight out of there. Thankfully his wife and kids talked him out of it, I still wouldn't go. You still have to deal with the crowds at the resorts etc. No thanks. I go in mid January. I love it. Two weeks till my next ( last visit for sometime ) visit.

Sadly, as a family of two teachers with a school age daughter, it's either the heat of summer or the chaos of Spring Break or Christmas/New Years. With a 15 hour drive, we aren't going for less than 5 days. With all our trips during those crowded times, we've come up with quite a few good plans to make it most enjoyable!

I wonder if the addition of a free meal for 1 day/1 park MK ticket holders being turned away is due to the fact that MK costs more than the other parks? You pay a premium on a 1 day MK ticket vs the other three parks so if you don't get to use it at MK, that's really kinda unfair. (Yes, it's only a few bucks but the fact remains MK now does cost more to visit for a day.)

I am going to submit myself to the crowds at Epcot on NYE. Simply because the experience of being someplace like that to celebrate the new year sounds like fun. I have late FastPasses set up already for the busiest part of the day, but I plan on just enjoying the surroundings.

Honestly, this right here is the ONLY logical reason for going at this time of year. I get that for some people this is the only time of year you can go if your work schedule doesn't permit otherwise. I'd wager most people that show up at Christmas though don't fit into that category.

It's funny too because last year when they introduced the MK only ticket, they allowed individuals with that specific ticket into MK all the way up to phase 3 due to the argument of them stating "Well we bought a ticket FOR Magic Kingdom" now being valid vs prior years where all they had bought was a ticket valid at any of the parks. I'm assuming they quickly learned how many people bought strictly 1D1P MK tickets and realized that allowing them in while limiting everything else wasn't going to make much of an impact on crowd flow.

No, I got given a couple for that back in Christmas 2012.

Ironically, I think it I had better understood the type of closings they had, then we would have gotten in.
At the time I assumed that 'Park Closed' meant no new admissions at all until it was lifted.

Eeek checking back, it was actually Christmas day 2007!

Time flies eh!

I have a question for ya'll. with this new phased system, does anybody know if Phased A also constiutes restricting entry to folks with a Disney Maingate or is that still a "phase 1" type of deal? Thanks

MK has entered “Phase B” at 1:45 PM.

The difference between A and B is there is NO PARK HOPPING into MK from another park, even for resort guests.

IF you have been in MK you can reenter if there is space available. (Which there apparently is at the moment.)

Thanks for the info on Phase B, I've been waiting for someone to reply! lol
