Hi all - don't know if anything has been mentioned before but have just been told that Disney are thinking of building a new park in Spain.:lookaroun My friend has just purchased an apartment in Marbella and was told this information about Disney by the company she purchased it from. Has anyone else heard anything? I do know that Universal have a place out there!!!!! It would be kind of cool if they did.

No.. its too close to Euro Disney. Originally Spain was a choice but was turned down when the French Govt gave Disney a deal they couldn't refuse... which maybe they should have.

None, it would make no sense to create a park competing with Disneyland Paris.

Disney's name does seems to be mentioned for real estate purposes often, though...

I thought this was going to be another 5th gate thread...my heart almost skipped a beat.

Look for the next Disney park to be in an Asian country.

Not too close

France and Spain are worlds apart.

Just because they are both in Europe doesnt mean they are actually close.

First off Spain gets MUCH better weather all year round.
Second more people vacation to Spain for longer. Spain is like Florida for Europeans. Its just a tourist trap. You can get VERY cheap flights there all year round. It would make more sense to build a park in Spain than France, but Michael Eisner wanted a more cultured city for his Masterpice.

Im not saying this is happening, im just saying this isn't a bad idea. I live next to france (well kinda) However I would choose to go to Spain a million times over than go to France. And i dont think im too alone on that.....

Kind of like how it makes no sence for Disney to build a park to compete with Disneyland in California...

Spain and france are more apart than Cali and Florida (and i dont just mean in distance)

Not saying there will be...... just stating that its a much better location than Paris, and its far enough to warrant one.

But i know Bob Iger has little intrest in building another park too soon. In my opinion theres no need for another one, just a deep desire....

Paris to Marbella is probably around 1000 miles, Disneyland to Disney World is about 2500 miles. 2 and a half times as far.

Western Europeans are very similar no matter which country they are from. Infact I would say there is more of a cultural divide in the USA than in W. Europe.

Euro Disney would almost certainly have done better if it had been built in Spain from the start, simply because of the weather. However it doesn't take a genius to see that there is no demand for 2 Disney parks in Europe at the moment.

Yup no need, but a park in spain would perform ALOT better in Spain than in France. And i think there is a huge differnce in attitudes accross europe, th same way there is a huge difference in attitudes between England, Scotland and Wales.

I really hope that all talks of expansion whether in the US or the world would stop. I feel we need to focus on the current ones we have and then see about expansion. Let's be real, DCA and Disneyland Paris are barely meeting expected attendence, if that at all. I am just a little concerned.

In a class last year I wrote my final paper the Disney parks. I called it "Attack of the Mouse: The Globalization of Disney Theme Parks." When discussing the first foreign park, I mention Spain's weather, but describe transportation as one of the main reasons for Paris: "The proposed location put the park within a driving distance of 68 million people, and nearly 300 million more were just a two-hour-flight away. " My source stated that the location in Spain couldn't compare to these numbers.

Can anyone confirm or deny this? Does anyone have numbers on the Spanish city?

What do you want to have confirmed??

There are absolutely no plans for building a new park in Spain... or anywhere else in europe...
