Disney Announces Shanghai Theme Park

1/11/2009 10:26 PM EST

The Disney Company has announced that plans for their new theme park in Shanghai, China, are set to move forward.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Disney will be building the new park, at a cost of $3.59 billion, and plan to have it opened by 2014.

Leslie Goodman, a spokeswoman for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, said "Discussions have been ongoing about the feasibility of a theme park project in China. As part of this lengthy process, we worked on a joint application report with the Shanghai government which will be submitted to the central government for review. No deal has been signed, no project has been approved."

Disney will own 43% of Shanghai Disneyland, leaving the remaining 57% owned by the government.

What does everyone think about this? Any truth to it?

This has been a go since last summer... the legal bits just needed to be finalised. They seem to have learnt from HKDL too. Maybe.
