New modern day costumes coming to American Adventure?

I don't understand what the fuss is about. I can't think of a single costume that is flattering or attractive on disney property.
Not including the movie type characters, i'd definitely make the claim that Haunted Mansion uniforms are rather attractive. The maid and butler outfits are very classy and cool. And I like most of the world showcase costumes (besides the new American Adventure ones).

The interesting thing about the Mansion uniforms was that a front-line CM actually helped design the new uniforms for Mansion about 10-12 years ago. I remember reading an article, it may have been from Eyes & Ears (the CM newsletter), about how Imagineering took her input about suggestions in making the costume both more comfortable for the CM wearing it and to do the job.

Makes me wonder if the CMs at the AA pavilion had any input into their new costumes.

I'd have to agree with the HM costumes being "attractive" in that they definitely fit both the area and the attraction. I think many of the costumes found throughout Tomorrowland as well as Frontierland are the same. I think maybe that's the key with these... the attraction and the pavilion are so Colonial and not at all modern so it's less that these new costumes are ugly or unattractive and more that they don't seem to fit the area they are worn in.

Tower of Terror?
Star Tours?
Jungle Cruise?
... and many more

Costumes can't fix people shapes.

Yea I'm not a fan of any of the costumes, especially after wearing a few. I like them when it comes to the overall show but I don't care if the CM is a size 2 or larger the costumes aren't flattering on any figure. So I wasn't reffering to peoples shapes as much as the lack of shape in costumes.

I understand with the amount of CMs and different body shapes they can't design a costume to flatter all. I get that. But these new costumes, in my opinion, don't alter my views on the pavilion and they look more comfortable for the CMs

But the costumes aren't designed to flatter the CM's. They are meant to flatter the stage surroundings. They are theater costumes. Nobody looks great either in 18th century torn rags for a production of Les Misérables.

Whereas Les Misérables DOES look better with 18th century rags than with comfy modern costumes for the cast members.

These are things I am well aware of. I mentioned that in a later post. The pavilions are suppose to represent places not times. So what's the big deal with putting the CMs in more practical costumes with patriotic colors.

Part of communicating a place is based in a representation of time. I find it hard to believe that the Imagineers who designed EPCOT Center did it wrong and somehow filled in the gaps with a more elaborate costume that just happened to look colonial like the architecture.

No kidding.

But apparently Imagineering of the early 1980's did get it wrong, and it took 30 years for the brain trust in TDO to break through decades of mistakes and finally give the American pavilion what it needed; a contemporary polyester uniform that looks a lot like what you'd see in a fast food drive-thru window.

If only the 1982 Imagineers and Orlando executives had been as brilliant as their 2012 peers and realized that contemporary drive-thru vision, this is is the pavilion uniform that would have debuted in '82 with the American Adventure's first day of public operation....

After this, our EPCOT30 weekend, how many people snapped out of the denial phase regarding what the park has become? I mean, D23, the presentations, the tweets...at some point they had to look around and say, y'know, this place kinda sucks now

You know what? You are right! Forget those old Colonial costumes. These definitely match the brick colonial architecture of the building and the gold trim on the "Liberty Inn Publick Dining Room" ... well, at least they match the colors. What attention to detail those 1982 EPCOT Center designers missed.

Forget my argument with those pictures of the colonial building features above. It was the colors that matter!

Speaking of saying things elsewhere in the thread... (LOL :D) the key here is not that these are unattractive or don't flatter the CMs. The key is that the costumes at each attraction or in each land are themed to match the environment. While it may be true that the pavilions are supposed to represent places and not times, in this case, the pavilion is undoubtedly set in a very specific time and the new costumes, flattering or not, are out of place. I think that is the general "complaint" with these. Sure it's great to put the CMs into more practical costumes or modernize where appropriate but if it conflicts with overall presentation of where the CMs are standing, it becomes confusing.

yes, wish I had a pic somewhere...
You mean this one right?

Honestly the costumes look pretty good, Excluding the QSR ones. They are more modern and upscale. But for some reason disney does not know how to make good looking costumes for QSR location (with 2 or 3 exceptions). I understand the need for those costumes to be more generic and bigger to be safer (less likely to burn oneself with thick cotton pants then say a skirt) and to not be horribly noticeable if you get something on you (soda, ketchup, etc.) But still If Stands can get nice and functional costumes than so should QSR.
