I take it the yellow planet out front was scrapped? Regardless, the building is looking amazing...and it looks like the outside is nearing completion, with the exception of the Compaq Lounge--which is still in its skeleton form (i.e. just supports). I wonder how disney will theme the inside...I mean, it'd look kinda bad walking out to the metal monster this ride will be...but it'd be tough to get guests out there w/o us seeing the metal-work...you would almost need moving walkways like you see in airports...regardless, nearly everything must be done on the inside by now, because we all know this ride is in testing(it is to have a year of testing before opening...which would mean it's already been operational for three months).

I think the theming will have to be twice as good as Star Tours because the Guests expect more. I'm told Disney wanted to beat Spider-Man bad, so this is their answer.

This ride doesn't need to BEAT spiderman...it doesn't even need to COMPETE with Spiderman. Spiderman is a great attraction...but THIS is NOTHING like it...WDI has given Spiderman its props but in NO WAY are they COMPETING with it. Their main focus right now is to WOW people and get them into Epcot and relieve the lines in Test Track...but, if they mop the floor with Spiderman in the process, good for them.

I agree, why does MS need to beat or even compare to Spider-man. IOA is nothing like EPCOT, and how does an edutainment ride based on reality compare to a fictional action ride. I don't see any connections. On the technology level, sure... it seems that Test Track and MS being in the same park will greatly raise the Unique Experience barrier, but I don't feel that people will be saying "I like MS way better than Spider-man" or vice-versa like you can when saying "I like Hulk better than RnR" for example.

Or...I like Ripsaw Falls better than Splash Mountain...(wait...that's NEVER been said ANYWAYS)

Rumors said that the inside will be "themed" to a "Space Flight Training Center". In other words... if they use this theme not much will have to be done to the inside. It can look like a wearhouse. kind of like Test Track (rafters and building supports showing).
This is one rumor I hope is not true though..

If they go with the "Trip into Outherspace" theme, there are several possibilities to "hide" the ride system. Put up a circular wall around the actual ride system. Have a door for each pod. The door could be themed to an air lock of some sort. Each pod would stop right at the door. In other words, you would get into the pod without actually seeing the pod.

I also do not belive the actual ride system is in place in the show building yet.

WOW! I didn't expect to start a "war". I'm just saying, with all the hype Disney, the Press and Forums about this Attraction years before it's opening date, Guests are going to compare this to other rides they have been on. The "normal" Guest isn't going to compare Spiderman to Mission:Space, but they will say if one ride is better than another. That's what people do, they talk. I do know for a fact that Disney now has plans to re-do the q-line for MS due to the fact research shows that people with wheelchairs couldn't use the same line as everyone else. The research also showed that this "issue" cause longer lines.

The ride system has to already be in place--disney has sealed up the building and some of the higher-ups have already ridden the attraction.

Really? Last I heard they were having problems with the video on the ride....making it realistic and all....or have they fixed that?

Well, if you think about it...what does it "look" like when you're traveling in Space??? The stars aren't getting any "closer" to you and it's pitch black in space. Does it even "look" like you're moving if you're not approaching a planet or moon???

(I know they could "make" it look like you're moving but then it wouldn't really be realistic)

well, the problem with the videos is exactly the type of thing Disney put this one year buffer period in place for. Disney will have to do something unrealistic to make this work out anyway--you are supposed to go from Earth to Mars and back all during a five-minute ride...and I believe "something goes wrong"...traditional disney ride:)

Oh...so this is the Test Track simulator??? Something goes wrong??? LOL ....Sorry, I actually like Test Track (it's no World of Motion) but I enjoy it...when it runs properly.

I saw 3 large brightly painted orbs outside of the building today. It was of the moon, Earth and Jupiter. Couldn't tell if they were being installed outside or not. Sorry, I do not have a digital camera.

Yup, they've been installed.

Watched them float by on a crane.. strange sight to notice out of the corner of your eye through the trees. Planets floating by and all.

Apparetly, according to people i talk to, Earth is the marquee.

You can get a good view from the Test Track lounge.

Wish i could of brought a camera by yesterday, they were apparently being stored behind Wonders of Life before being installed today.
