New MagicBands and Sliders coming soon

There is no info on the band they will both be linked to your MDE account, so your old band will still work.

The band basically has a serial number on the RFID chip, that number is linked to your MDE account, and when you touch your band to a reader all it gets is the serial number which the computer shows is attached to you account which has tickets and hotel info linked.

OIC. So potentially I could have a whole slew of bands that all relate to the same account. Interesting. (and pretty sly of Disney)

yes many people have a bunch as Disney sends you new ones with every stay. The only thing to consider is that the long range rfid battery lasts approx 2 years, so the band will work forever for room key and FP use but the band will eventually not function for things like ride photos.

I hope sooner or later they will able to have you make your own band so you can customize it and have it ready for your next trip.

Also does anyone notice that they made a band for DHS when next week we will "Hopefully" hear of the renaming of the park at D23 Expo..

When they change the name of the park the old band just becomes a collectors edition. =D

We leave in 12 days and saw these yesterday. I am going to predict some new bands for sure. I did previously see a sorcerer Mickey one for me and a Minnie one for my DW. More money going out. I am sure our DD will be itching to get one as well

The Figment and Steamboat Willie ones are nice. I just wish Disney would split the difference with me and let me pay a little extra to get one of those in the box they send before my trip. I don't think I'll ever buy a magic band for full retail when I have a functioning one for free. Figment was close, though... good try, Disney.

Thanks for this info. A couple of questions that I can't help wondering..... if the battery dies, how can the room key & FP still work? Seems like they would need the battery to connect to a guest's info.
Also, how do we know when a battery has died? Is there a way to tell before a trip?? (or do you have to try to use it and find it doesn't work?) For example, if I wanted to take a new MB and an old one, to have different colors to wear, I wouldn't want to wear the old one one day, and get to a park and then find that it no longer worked - and the new one was back at our room.

Thanks for any help with this!

Ugh. I didn't know they did this with actual bands. I just thought it was all accessories. How much are these things? I do like Figment.

Most seem to be $20-$25. Just curious about how do activate the new ones. It seems my DD is getting the figment one since we will be inEpcot the day it is released.

I may buy a pkg or two for keepsakes but dont know if I'd add them to my band. They do look like they stick out on the edges and would easily catch on things. I also wonder how uncomfortable they would feel having several of them attached rubbing on my wrist all day??

There are 2 RFID radios in the band, a short range one that uses no internal power, the reader actually powers the chip for the short time it is held against the mickey. The long range one used for ride photos is the only one that has an internal battery as it has to broadcast its signal. So the band is good forever for things like park admission,FP's and room keys.

You simply have to link them to your MDE account either at the store or later using the link button on your MDE account

Much appreciated. We will be getting 3 when we get down there. I might as well just send my paycheck straight to the WDO
