New Kilimanjaro FASTPASS tickets

I doubt Disney would charge since the systems that you pay for are not nearly as successful, but a multi-tiered system would certainly make sense. Hopefully it doesn't get so ridiculous that your perks depend on how much you are spending at your resort, but I could certainly see an argument for addition perks for staying on property versus other guests.

Was it always only a 30 minute time slot for KS? I thought all attractions (with the exception of "shows") had a 1 hour time slot for you to return in.

They also mention on the bottom what type of ticket you used. For instance, when I used my Cast ID yesterday, it said "Cast Member" and when I used my Maingate Pass it said "Silver Maingate". Not sure what that means, but interesting that it's reading what type of pass.

It shows 30 minutes because the safari closed at 5 yesterday (actually earlier, due to weather). It normally would be 1 hour.

This makes sense.
Universal has been offering a Fast Pass feature for guests onsite for awhile now. Why wouldn't Disney do the same?

The only reason i can think of to have the barcode on the ticket is to track when it actually returns along with the ticket-holder's information.

What good that data is, i'm not really sure.

I'm guessing you've never heard of "Black market fastpasses"... This would CERTAINLY be a way to stop those. A lot of areas are REALLY cutting down and being careful to check the dates.

BM Fast Passes are everywhere. For a while, you could find "Fast Pass" packs on ebay, thought I haven't seen any in a while. Then for a while (since they say 'not for re-sale') you could "buy and envelope and get free fastpasses". CPs routinely trade them at The Commons. I know for a while it was Tuesday Nights, not sure what it is now. Many front-line CPs also give them out to friends and family to use for whenever. I have friends who are frontline that have BOXES full of fastpasses for all different attractions. they NEVER wait in line for anything...

Actually, this data could be very useful to Disney. They issue fast passes with one hour blocks. But they have no way of knowing when in that hour people come back. Now they do. Do 99% of the people come at the beginning of the hour block? I know I usually do so I can get another fast pass.

They could learn a lot about how to better control lines and wait times (even for non fast pass lines). One of my frustrations has been the line queue wait times are usually too short if you don't have a fast pass because they don't absolutely know how long the wait is because of fast pass traffic.

They may learn that they only need to offer a 30 minute window to return because everone does anyway. Who knows... but I'm sure the data would be very useful.

Well the large date at the bottom makes it impossible to use unused fast passes from previous trips.

...Guess I'll have to throw those out, then

Cast Members typically have such a high entrance volume that they do not have time to check the date. And it's very small print, so it's tough to see too...

Very interesting. For instance, on the sample image, we see that the fastpass holder's original ticket was purchased at Magic Kingdom (WMK coding on the fine print) back on 5/2/07. Something tells me the bar coding is to help figure out what percentage is getting fastpasses and not returning them, etc.

I'm sure the barcode is meant to control the black market Fastpass trade. I've heard about it a lot--it's centralized out of New York City and there has been many a gang war up here over Soarin' Fastpasses. Now, if someone tries to use the contraband, a SWAT team will immediately swoop out of the bushes, capture the perpetrator, and take him/her downtown to Mickey's Toontown Fair for questioning. The next morning, guests will find a new doll has been added at "it's a small world." All this as part of the 28-month Year of a Million Dreams Celebration.
