NEW HOTEL?

Sorry to say, there is no easy fix for the PPH. If there was, Disney would have already done it.

The PPH was built in 1984 as the Emerald of Anaheim, whose focus was the Convention Center and Asian Tourist.

The Hotel has a lot of flaws in the flow, room size, and many issues like energy efficiency that leads to the best solution of a total tear down, and rebuilding it. So, after the 4th Hotel is totally finished, I would expect to see it shut down

If you want to build a 3 or 3.5 stars now, you can use modular construction, and get the new Hotel up and running in a year or two. (See all the new Hotels near the DLR for examples). Plus it is in the Master Plan area, so no real city permission is needed.

The amount Disney would save in operations and getting more rooms to sell would allow a fairly quick recouping of construction costs.

Reskinning, or even stripping the Structure to the steel and concrete frame (What the Sheraton Park did) doesn't solve the flow or room size issues. The main problems of the PPH is the inside.

Meh- they need to gut the lobby, add better restaurants, destroy that disgusting pool and build something worthy of a Disney resort. The rooms are the least of the worries. The grounds and amenities of the hotel are way below a Disney standard.

I have an idea. Why don't they re skin it to Pixar! Problems solved.

This is exactly what I was thinking. The rooms are fine IMO. It's the exterior, property grounds, and amenities that are sub-par.

I've heard one of the problems is not enough elevators for the amount of floors and it takes forever to get up or down.

I think I read somewhere that the elevator issue has been resolved. Personally I'd prefer it if they blew up the hotel and built something else, but short of that it shouldn't be impossible to give the current property a similar reworking as the DLH, a property that is much older than the PPH.

So who wants to bet those two smaller wings behind the larger two are going to be DVC?

I believe a DVC tower will come to the parking lot on the South side of the property (near the Lego Store and towards the Paradise Pier of the hotel) as Phase II of the hotel, rather than being a feature of the hotel from the get-go. DVC isn't nearly as big of a deal in Anaheim.

With the new hotel coming and a new security checkpoint, I hope Disney will widen walkways on the westside and improve the new access on the westside. I have found it not very pedestrian friendly. The addition to the current security check point on DTD left me confuse and annoyed. Might as well remove the hidden mickey on Disneyland Dr. I found that part of the walkway very irritating as well. That how I get from past experience and Sunday visit.

IMHO it's not a big deal because there isn't enough of it. Once they build some more hotels and or add DVC to those, it'll be a bigger deal.

I think DVC will become an important part of Disney's strategy in the build up to Marvel Land/Frozen Land/Gate Three. It would be foolish of them not to leverage all the shiny new stuff that is inevitably coming to Anaheim with a DVC Resort/Tower.

Is Disney even interested in building more DVC rooms in Anaheim? It like since 2010 since they added DVC rooms to GCH. I thought back then they sold out quick.

Yes
Yes, they sold out quickly. I remember reading back then that a block of traditional hotel rooms in grand Californian could be converted to DVC if there was demand. Obviously there was/is seeing how quickly those 50 units book up so frequently.

I recall that the soft sales at Aulani delayed any further DVC expansion in Anaheim. Disney solely focused on selling Aulani.
