Will Pop and AoA be upgraded from value resorts to a higher price point? AKL is the most beautiful resort on site and you only have busses to transport you.
They may not be officially upgraded, but I wouldn't be surprised if the price point between them and the all stars gets a lot wider now. Almost like a high end value category similar to how GF and WL are both deluxe but GF has a higher price point.

If all the resorts get their own special transportation to a nearby park, then the monorail resorts aren't going to be special anymore. So, I'm sure we'll the monorail resorts drop down to about $100 a night.

If they do expand further, a connector between Coronado and Swolphin or Yacht & Beach would be a huge boon for super large conventions whether it's hosted at Coronado or Y&B.
Makes a lot of sense. Coronado sits about halfway between AK and DHS. It may be worth it to extend a potential phase 2 of this further, to AK on one end and connect to the existing system on the other. That would connect the existing system to a 3rd park plus add Coronado and it's soon to be 2,500 rooms to 3 parks as well. This would get nearly 10,000 rooms connected to 3 of 4 parks.

It will be interesting to see if people are still willing to pay to stay on the monorail. Maybe it's the excitement of the newness, but I much rather stay at a gondola resort connected to two parks instead of a monorail resort. This will be even more true when my kids are older.

At the Animal Kingdom Lodge as I write this and I will say with or without transportation this is without doubt the best hotel on property.

Interesting how there is a possibility for AKL to Ak transportation as last year I had the idea to design one for armchair imagineering.

Well it seems like marni was saying there could be a direct line from AKL to AK something along the lines of Harry potter train. If so it will even be better.

You didn't.

Someone asked if there would be a GL between AK and AKL. @marni1971 said no, but hinted something else. The someone else suggested a train. And then the dinosaurs died. And Agamemnon dead.
Correct, he didn't say specifically like harry potter but he said it would be not be the gondolas and we all know it won't be a monorail so logic would dictate it would be a light rail of some sort and since not that great a distance costs wouldn't be that bad at all.

Sorry if I have missed this, but typically how long does it take to build a gondola? I know we're talking Disney speed here... but what's anyone's best guess? 2020? Sooner?

If engineering is already completed, a good chunk of this project could be completed within 18 months. Here's an article outlining an 8.5 mile system getting underway in Branson, MO. :

"At a proposed length of 8.5 mile (13.7km) spread across 10-12 stations, the gondola will transport passengers from Branson Landing (mall located in Downtown Branson) to Silver Dollar City (amusement park).

Gondola alignment. Image by American Gondola.

If the project is built, the cable car would likely be one of the world’s longest passenger ropeways. Comparatively speaking, the world’s longest existing monocable detachable gondola (MDG) is the Bursa Uludağ Gondola (5.5mi / 8.8km) in Turkey.

With the MOU now signed, the agreement will provide the proponents (American Gondola) and its investors a degree of exclusivity and the confidence necessary to spend their money on detailed design and engineering. While the proponents also requested the City use eminent domain to help implement the gondola, this clause was ultimately removed in MOU’s final draft.

Some may question if the project is a tad ambitious for a City of just 11,000 residents. However, as one of our guest bloggers described previously, Branson receives an estimated 8 million visitors each year and is known as the “Country Music Capitol” of the US. Capturing a fraction of these visitors at proposed fares of $15-30 could ensure its economic viability.

Considering how all PRT and monorail projects in the past 25 years failed to move past the concept stage, the fact that City officials has agreed to an MOU is a great sign and demonstrate its willingness to work alongside proponents from American Gondola.

And perhaps there’s a good reason for that — since the proposal was launched publicly in October 2015, it appears most media and public responses have been very positive.

If all approvals are received, construction could start in 2018 and the gondola could be built and operational in 18-24 months. All in all, this urban gondola proposal appears to be one of the most advanced in the US and it will be exciting to see how it all unfolds."

Well, Disney just announced CSR is adding a "Deluxe" hotel, and CBR expansion will presumably be Deluxe Villas (DVC), so there will be some Moderate-price shoes to fill :)
