Maybe Disney can sell a $5/day 'solo gondola' package. Where those that want it(!!) can pay to have a gondola without any strangers. Because... it doesn't take away from others right, its only for those that want it!!

Killington, VT used to upcharge...they even built specialty VIP cabins. See attached!

It's worth noting that even if a cabin launches every 5.7 seconds that does not necessarily mean guests only have 5.7 secs to load.
Right. Think peoplemover. Tbe gondolas unhook from the constant speed dragline OR The circle they travel around is large enough (and has a rotating walkway) to slow the velocity through distance

True. But it would mean they have less than half the time as with a 12 sec/cabin launch.

lol. My point was if a station drew in 3 gondolas at a time the guests have more time to load before the first cabin ( in the chain of 3) leaves the station. All we know currently is that a cabin will leave every 5.7 secs per the math. We don't yet know how many cabins will be in the station at a given time. The longer the station and the more time the cabins hang in the station the more time guests have to board. I don't think loading will be nearly as rigid as your post let on. It'll be dare I say it; leisurely boarding. I don't anticipate the CM's being Gondola Nazis or us as riders having to hurry to a cabin. 5.7 secs depart yeah but much more time to load.

Thats the spirit! I wish that was the case for me, but unfortunately I have an annoying problem when the illusion is broken. I'm trying to solve the problem I have by squinting or looking away like it didn't happen:p

Thats what I was hoping to hear, and if thats the case I'm on board with this project.
And seeing hordes of unwashed masses pushing screaming kids in double and triple wide strollers helps the illusion? Strange things break your illusions.... Geeze find something else to gripe about - maybe the lack of AC on your 5 minute ride when you spend 8 hours walking around in the sun?

Someones salty...

I was thinking about this the other day and think I've come up with a solution. Use a berm to hide the actual Gondolas then simply add a fake mini gondola scene that passes near the pavillion's Eiffel Tower. Why?

Two reasons. The Eiffel Tower fails to look realistic. It's designed small to appear far away but it doesn't quite work. It just looks small -- because there's nothing else around it for visual reference for us to determine it's size. Enter the faux gondola scene.

Imagineering could really amp up the "depth perspective" of the Eiffel Tower with the addition of "faux mini gondolas" in background. This will give us a visual reference that will make the illusion of the Eiffel Tower seem grand and larger. As an added bonus; watching those "gondolas" go back and forth will add a nice bit of kinetic movement in an otherwise static and bland area.

Nice idea Magicart! That would also give people a little bit of a way-finder to know which direction the actual gondolas are at. It would also be cool if when Ratatouille comes in they build an Eiffel Tower that is scaled up, though that may make the rest of the pavilions perspectives go wonky.

I don't know which body of water you're talking about that is 15 feet higher, because it doesn't exist. Crossing two roads also isn't a problem, it's called a bridge. You might even say they did this exact same thing on the other side of the park, even crossing two roads in the process.

My opinion is that the thought of adding another entrance has never even been brought up. Not that it would be so difficult to add one (explosives and all) but that adding one would require a large amount of re-thinking and re-design concerning that corner of the park. Although the area is not necessarily developed yet, I am sure there is a long range plan in place to do just that and that plan ties into so many other plans and infrastructure (and service areas and cast parking and emergency services and etc..)

On the other hand, I do keep an eye on the Google maps and my ear to the wall. When Disney rebuilt Buena Vista Dr. they rebuilt the bridge over the flood canal that runs from OKW southwest, and the new bridge is higher than the old one was. High enough for transportation to/from Disney Springs to eventually travel to Riviera Resort ? Yes, I know it's a stretch, reworking the flood system(s) and crossing the Bonnet Creek right-of-way. But I like playing the 'what if' game !!

That is far but could be cool. They news to do something to tie everything together better.

Forgive me if this has already been talked about, but I couldn't bring myself to go back through every post in the thread (I'd be here for a long time), but what happens in the event of thunder and lightning with this system? I would have to assume that it shuts down, as this is an elevated system and could be a lightning magnet.

Towers are grounded, drag line is grounded.. vehicles are not. Yes, they would likely suspend it (as they do boats when small craft warnings are afoot), but it's about the same lightning risk as your car.

Once again spend time with google maps and inspect the IG area to see the Epcot lagoon is 15+ feet higher than the surrounding ditches and ponds you want to connect to it.
You are continuing to embarrass yourself by not doing the research

They may have done onsite testing. It might not get hot enough to kill someone with any AC... maybe it wasn't hot the day they did the test maybe it was... Doesn't matter to me. I grew up in the south and had relatives that had no AC... guess what no one wanted to visit them in the summer months. All I can say is there is no way I would ever ride in a gondola in the Florida heat if it didn't have AC and I suspect there are more than a few people that either feel that way now or will become believers after they ride along in a hanging green house.

Statistically, more people die from the cold, than from heat. ;) There are numerous cable car systems all over the world without A/C. I guess we'll just have to wait and see how comfortable this will be. I trust their testing.

Well aware of that... But somehow I expect the typical visitor to Disney is going to be a little more finicky about their comfort than the typical local in Singapore.

Well once its open and its plenty cool enough without AC, I'd say that those who are dead set with their 'we need AC' will have to admit they are wrong.

Likely, some will complain that they're uncomfortable, thus Disney made a huge mistake and they were right all along.

Just out of curiosity.. And this may be a stupid point...

Are we basing throughput calcs as if this were one long line with one load station.. Whereas it is actually 3 lines with 6 load points (not including midline at Riviera).

Guy I know used to be a Disney CM. He talks (often) about Internet Disney Purists and Annual Passholes.. says the first group complains on line the second makes it a point to chew out cast members early,. and often.

People will always find something to complain about. They complian about the buses now. They complain about the boats. They complain about the minnie vans being too expensive, etc etc.

They consulted with the system vendor and decided that getting the AC option was not necessary. They probably did a couple Joe Rohde style trips to check other systems and they decided the AC was not necessary. Might be off the shelf but it does have options like buying a car.
Just remember that at some point, some engineer signed off on the Yeti design, too. And we all know how THAT went... ;)
