Great picture as usual! Believe me, I'm as excited as everyone, but looking at this photo, and reading everything about the huge fle expansion and the size of the new coaster, isn't the whole land the size of the former 20,000 leagues???

20,000 Leagues was mostly just the TLM and Mine Train area. The Mermaid building is about the same size as the old 20k show building, and even uses two of its old walls. The BatB area and the space between it and Mermaid was mostly unused land, and then of course Circusland is/was Toontown.

Do we know if the Seven Dwarfs building will stretch far enough that it will occupy the space where Dumbo currently sits? Or will it's footprint only be in the area that is currently behind construction walls?

It will be the area confined basically to the construction walls (give or take a few feet or so). It may stretch just to the edge of where Dumbo is right now, but mostly that space will be a walkway as well as the main section of the dividing castle wall.

I might add its hard to say exactly where the "building" for the Seven Dwarfs ride will be. From the concept art, press release, and from what our insiders have said, a significant portion of the ride appears to be outside so while the overall footprint of the attraction will be quite large, the actual building should be significantly smaller.

I am curious as to how much show building the mine train will have. With all the interior scenes, it would seem to need a good deal of space indoors. Should we be expecting something like BTMRR in the middle of FL? or is it going to be a giant show building?

I can't imagine it being like BTMRR, there is just not enough indoor space in a layout like that. But I also can't imagine it having a Rockin Rollercoaster size show building right in the middle of FLE. Anyone have any insight?

Its exciting to see that The Little Mermaid castle is taking shape. Saw it yesterday when I rode Dumbo (didn't take any pictures) but it all look amazing and coming along great.

The Little mermaid building was but from scratch. The two walls you might be referring too might be in the same location as the old walls. I know this cause one day I was late for the cast member buss and had to sprint across the old 20k grounds

It's definitely going to be a substantial construction area to walk around once Beast and Mermaid open. Thanks to Scott Keating for the wonderful shots, and thanks as always to Steve for providing them to us.

Any idea on way the Mine car ride construction will start? How much more will they have to push the construction walls into the exsisting FL? And will Little Mermaid open with the Mine Car construction still going on or will they open everything together?

Is that the old Ariel M&G pad still up by Village Haus? Why would they still have that when it looks like the work is right up to it's edges?
Mine train must be going mostly underground, or they are simply going to bring in lots of dirt to cover it all. Doesn't look like much room for a real roller coastrer. Heard something about a pseudo roller coaster a while back, more like a kids ride on tracks. Need a decent size hill for a real coaster to get speed to finish, unless using magnets or huge air or liquid tanks to propel.

I am just excited to see something new in FL. That area has been the same since forever. I know they have winnie the pooh, but that was just a redesigned ride. I am happy we are getting 2 totally new rides. I do wish that there were less meet and greet areas.

If you look at the area on Google Earth you can go back to some older satellite photos back to when 20K was still there. You can clearly see that the walls along the back and toon town sides of the 20K building were never taken down and were used as part of LM.

actually it doesn't use any of the original walls as the show building was completely demo'ed years ago. the size is also many many time smaller as you could still see part of the old dry dock before the construction started as to where the original used to end. the little mermaid show building is 50% smaller the 20K show building was. 20k was massive and took almost that entire lot, now look, their fitting 3 attractions where only 1 used to be!! sad, i miss 20k even though i never was lucky enough to ride it :-( :veryconfu

Nope, you're wrong. The two walls of the show building were still there even after the building was demolished. It was very visible from the CM bus.

They did that for permit reasons. If there is still a wall the permit can be classed as a renovation. If it's totally new, it's classified as new construction. The difference in permit fee is alot of $$$.

This has come up in discussion here before, and although it's been repeated a lot I can't image it actually being the reason. It might make a difference when you are renovating a house, but this expansion is costing 100's of millions of dollars, I can't image that a permit fee would be different enough to make any kind of impact on that cost.

Edit: Here is the thread that discussed this topic if anyone is interested: http://forums.wdwmagic.com/showthread.php?p=4335540

I believe I read somewhere that that concrete is actually the roof of some of the rooms off the utilidors.

Believe in what you want with the existence of these phantom walls, you can believe google earth photos or someone who used to walk next to it everyday. What i can remember was there where green "walls" that were made of plywood as a facade with no pictures on it, it was just to keep people out of there.
